A TLA might look swell.

I don't have a TLA to measure, traditional ones look pretty long. I could do a multi step blade that fit the length format. I could even do one of those blades with brass bands inlaid for three distances. To really work I'd need precise height to set each band though, an adjustable rear sight seems a lot simpler. I could also just do a rectangular blank a fellow could shoot and file into any format they dreamed up.

My plan has been to install the base as described by Weigand Machine, mill a flat/slot into the barrel, drill/thread and done. As I thought about other people installing it I realized not everyone has the equipment access I enjoy. So for install with just a drill press, as well as a solder on base I decided to try contouring the bottom of the base to barrel profile. This picture shows my setup part on the stub of cut barrel, and I think that is a fine solder of screw down fit. There is also the shorter solder on option next to it, and a third base upside down showing the contour cut. I also found some affordable 316 dowel pins at 1/4" which is perfect for the solder on base, to fit a screw head the screw on base needs to be .275" wide, so the pin is slightly recessed on each side, I still think it looks better than a roll pin though. Blades are mild steel so they can blued, or blackened by any common method, in the white now of course.

So a fully complete setup with traditional Ruger style blade for testing.
Content so far: US sourced 304SS for base, and low carbon steel for the blade A #6-40 SHCS from Holo-Krome to mount it US sourced #4 cone point set screw from Brighton, Taiwan 316SS Dowel pin China
It's tough finding US made hardware now.

I concur with the "great job!" comment. I would also suggest you consider a blade option of a white line like the Bowen front sight for an easy to aim front sight. I am getting older and loosing my ability to shoot open sights. I would guess there are many handgunners today like me.

Very nice work indeed, you're gifted. When I keep the original Blackhawk front sight I don't like how Ruger doesn't bring the serrated ramp all the way down to the sight base, so I re-contour mine to do that.

I'm thinking of adding a white line once I get a final height resolved, and a brass bead on the sourdough.

My Complements Sir! Nice, excellent machine work and craftsmanship. Wish I had a Ruger to put one of those bases on with a Jim Stroh front sight blade!

This morning I finished up my sourdough for the 327 Blackhawk that instigated this project. Next pic should be final installation.

The smell of Dykem layout blue reminds me of working in my pop's machine shop during my summer vacations from school. He thought I resented being there but far from it I liked it a lot.
