TWO MILES SOUTH OF Punta IS La Chata (SAME OWNERS), Punta HAS ORYX WHILE La Chata HAS ADDAX, THEY ARE COUSINS AND CAPABLE OF CROSS BREEDING. SOME ADDAX ESCAPED FROM La Chata AND SOMEHOW 4-5 GOT ON Punta. THE OWNERS WANT TO KEEP THEIR ORYX HERD PURE SO THEY ASKED THAT IF WE SEE AN ADDAX SHOOT IT (AT NO COST). TWO WERE SHOT EARLY ON BUT NONE SHOT IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS. TRAPR AND I ARRIVED AT Punta JUST AFTER 10:00 A.M. TODAY (1/8/24), GOT SETTLED IN, HUNTED/SCOUTED SOME, HAD LUNCH AT 12:30 P.M. AND WERE BACK OUT HUNTING BY 1:00 P.M. I DROVE SOUTH TO THE ADJOINING RANCH FENCE LINE THEN WE PROCEEDED ALONG THE FENCE LINE EAST WHEN I SPOTTED 2 "ORYX" BUT WHEN I PUT THE BINO's ON 'em THEY WERE 2 ADDAX, HOLY S..., WE FINALLY CAUGHT UP TO THEM. I LET TRAPR SHOOT FIRST WITH HIS MERKEL O/U 9.3x74 THEN I SHOT AT THE 2nd ONE USING MY MARLIN 336 IN 35 REMINGTON. BOTH OF US HIT WITH OUR 1st SHOTS BUT BOTH ANIMALS NEEDED SOME FOLLOW-UP. BOTH WERE PREGNANT FEMALES MAYBE WITHIN A WEEK OF BIRTHING. HERE IS A PICTURE OF ME AND MY ADDAX: linkAN UNEXPECTED BONUS AND ALWAYS GLAD TO HELP THE LAND OWNER. HUNTS FOR ADDAX ARE NORTH OF $4,000 SO THIS WAS A SPECIAL DAY FOR BOTH TRAPR AND I. Free Addax. Your retirement is getting better and better ....

VERY STRONG SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS BLOWING MONDAY (1/8/24) AND TODAY (1/10/24) SO TO GIVE MY TRAILER DOOR SOME SUPPORT AGAINST THE STRONG WINDS I PUT A 50lb BAG OF CORN ON THE ICE CHEST NEXT TO THE DOOR. NO PROBLEM MONDAY, PUT THE CORN BAG AWAY TUESDAY AND PUT IT BACK UP THIS MORNING. SO TODAY MID-AFTERNOON I GET PICTURE TEXT FROM A MEMBER OF THE CAMP STAFF SHOWING A PACK OF JAVELINA's NEAR MY TRAILER WITH A TORN CORN SACK AND FEASTING ON 50lbs OF CORN, 5-6 HOURS LATER AND THEY ARE STILL OUTSIDE MY TRAILER FEASTING. HERE IS A PICTURE FROM THIS AFTERNOON: ooops technical issue!

ABOVE IS A PICTURE OF THE JAVELINAS EATING AWAY. GETTING IN AND OUT OF MY TRAILER IS AN ADVENTURE. IF YOU RUN THEM OFF THEY COME BACK AND UNTIL THE CORN IS GONE THEY WILL PERSIST. I LOADED UP MY RUGER 2" LCR 22 MAG WITH 6 ROUNDS OF SNAKE SHOT JUST IN CASE. I CAN STILL HEAR THEM GRUNTING AND WHATEVER OUTSIDE, I SURE AS HECK HOPE THEY EAT ALL THE CORN BY MORNING. THE YARD AROUND THE TRAILER IS LITTERED WITH JAVLELINA POOP, LOOKS LIKE BIG DOG AND/OR HUMAN POOP. QUITE THE ADVENTURE BUT NOT THE KIND I HOPE FOR. HAD SOME ADDAX RIBS COOKED OVER COALS FOR SUPPER, DAMN GOOD MEAT WITH THE TEXTURE AND TASTE OF BEEF. THE FAT ON THE RIBS TASTED LIKE BEEF FAT. THE MEAT WAS A LITTLE TOUGH, PROBABLY NEEDED MORE WRAPPED UP SLOW COOKING BEFORE CRISPING UP OVER COALS. I HAVE 3 MORE PACKS OF THE ADDAX RIBS IN MY TRAILER TOP FREEZER FOR FUTURE USE HERE IN CAMP. DID NOT SEE 1 PIG ON PUNTA THIS TRIP, SAW PLENTY ON THE KING RANCH SIDE. SAW A LOT OF BUCKS AND TODAY. WE SAW 2 REALLY, REALLY GOOD BUCKS TODAY BUT I ONLY HAVE A SPIKE BUCK TAG LEFT. PLANNING TO EAT BREAKFAST EARLY TOMORROW AND LEAVE.

That's a funny photo Rey. I actually think Tyrone could hit one of those Javelina with his 7/30 Waters from a solid rest....without hitting a tire, if Callshot talked him through it.

Gee,, a Javelina with my 7x30 waters,, don't know if it's a big enough caliber. Maybe if I got a point blank shot, it standing still, and too blind to see me. (At least that's what Callshot would advise!)

Maybe you could just sneak up on one and brain it with the barrel.

HAD NOT BEEN TO PDM N A COUPLE OF WEEKS, CAME UP TODAY (1/24/24) WITH MY BUDDY DENVER, 70ish DAY, OVERCAST AND MISTY/DRIZZLY MOST OF THE DAY. SAW AN AWESOME 10 POINTER BUT I AM TAGGED OUT ON BUCKS, SAW A BUNCH OF THE USUAL SUSPECTS, BUT DID NOT SEE ANY COYOTES OR HOGS. A LEASE MATE (WITH 2 BUDDIES) SCORED ON A MEDIUM PREGNANT SOW AND A BIG, BUT SICKLY, BOAR WITH OUTSTANDING IVORY (HEADED FOR A EURO), HERE IS A PICTURE OF THE HOG:
