THERE ARE 10 OR 12 LEASE MEMBERS (I NEED TO COUNT 'em). MY BAG IS EXCLUSIVE TO ME, THE OTHER LEASE MEMBERS HAVE THE SAME BAG EXCEPT THAT ONLY ABOUT 1/2 OF US WILL GET A MANAGEMENT BUCK. FIRST KILL: linkGOT THIS LONG SKINNY SOW THS AFTERNOON. USED A MARLIN 336 IN 35 REMINGTON WITH HORNADY 200gr FLEX TIP AMMO. RIFLE HAS A VARIABLE BURRIS WITH EUROPEAN CROSSHAIRS (SPECIAL ORDER). IF IT WAS AT MY RANCH (NOW SOLD) I MAY HAVE NOT BOTHERED WITH HER BUT RULE IS YOU NEED TO RETRIEVE 'em AND BRING THEM TO CAMP. I TOLD THE SKINNER (ESTENAN) THAT I DID NOT WANT ANY OF THE MEAT. AFTER HE EXAMINED HER HE DECIDED SHE WAS enferma (SICK) SO TO THE GUT PILE SHE WENT. THIS AFTERNOON I SAW HOGS, JAVELINAS, TURKEY, DEER, NILGAI, LOTS OF ORYX, RED LECHWE, A BLACKBUCK, WATERBUCK FEMALES AND 4 IMPALA. I think I know that gun!!

What is the reason that they do not allow handgun hunting? Previous bad experiences, or just non-believers?
I have a place I could hunt bow only due to cows and owners home is on property. I think maybe they don’t trust guns at all to be honest.

I hunt a man's place for groundhog and coyotes
Due to some earlier a-hole hitting a cow, he won't let non-family use anything except a shotgun loaded with pellets on the property.
I use the crossbow there.

THE CO-OWNER THAT IS IN CHARGE OF THE HUNTING TRUSTS ME BUT IS AFRAID OF THE GUYS THAT ARE JUST GIMMICK HUNTING AND THE WOUNDED AND LOST GAME.

Despite the limitations,it still sounds like a good spot. I HAD BROTHERS AND GOOD FRIENDS ON 2 OF THESE RANCHES FOR YEARS AND WOULD OCASSIONALLY TAG ALONG BUT THE COST AND HANDGUN BAN KEPT ME FROM BEING A LEASE MEMBER. THEN I SOLD MY RANCH, WAS WORKING LESS AND "was flush" SO I GOT ON ONE RANCH LAST YEAR AND WHEN A SLOT AT PDM OPENED UP FOR THIS SEASON I SWITCHED OVER. NO REGRETS, JUST A FANTASTIC PLACE TO WANDER AROUND ON.

GOT TO PDM MID-MORNING TODAY. HAD A FRIEND WITH ME FOR THE DAY, HE GREW UP IN NORTH DAKOTA, HAS LIVED IN WYOMING AND MONTANA, NOW LIVES IN SPOKANE BUT WINTERS DOWN HERE IN SOUTH TEXAS. MY LOANER GUN IS A 16" RUGER AMERICAN RANCH 5.56/223 USING HORNADY 55gr SOFT POINT AMMO. IT HAS ACCOUNTED FOR SEVERAL HOGS AND A TURKEY.
SAW DEER, HOGS, TURKEY, JAVELINAS, KUDU, ORYX, AN ADDAX, WATERBUCK, ZEBRA, RED LECHWE, IMPALA, BLACKBUCK, NILGAI AND A BONTEBOK. THE BONTEBOK ARE IN A SEPARATE HIGH FENCED 600 ACRE OR SO PASTURE, A LOCAL ZOO KEEPS THEM THERE BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT BREEDING IN CAPTIVITY, AND SINCE THEY ARE "ZOO ANIMALS" THEY ARE JUST FOR LOOKING AT.
THIS AFTERNOON I NAILED A BIG BLACK HOG WITH THE MARLIN 35 REMINGTON. UNFORTUEATELY HE WAS IN VERY WET MUDDY/SWAMPY/MARSHY/BOG LIKE AREA WHICH MADE RECOVERY BY MORTAL HUMANS IMPRACTICAL, SO I LEFT THE RECOVERY EFFORT TO THE COYOTES AND BUZZARDS. IT HAS BEEN RAINING FOR A FEW DAYS (CLEARED UP TODAY). LIGHT RAINS AND NOT ENUFF TO FILL UP THE DUCK PONDS.
GOING TO HUNT IN THE MORNING AND THEN NEED TO HEAD HOME AS I HAVE SOME WORK TO DO AT THE OFFICE THURSDAY.

No place like Texas for such a variety of game animals, Rey sounds like you are off to a great start, keep it up.

NICE COOL, CLEAR, 56 DEGREE MORNING, DROVE AROUND, SEEING MANY OF THE USUAL SUSPECTS, SAW 2 SPIKES, MIGHT'a COULD HAVE GOT A SHOT AT ONE BUT PASSED ON THE OPPORTUNITY. DROVE BY A BIG POND NEAR A STOCK TANK. THE RECENT RAIN HELPED BUT IT IS ONLY ABOUT 20% FULL. PAST THE POND WAS A FIELD, WITH HIGH GRASS/WEEDS TO MY LEFT. I SAW SOMETHING, STOPPED PUT THE BINO's ON IT AND RECOGNIZED THE OUTLINE OF A HOG HEAD. I GUESS AS I DROVE PAST A BRUSHLINE THE HOG WAS IN THE FIELD AND FROZE HOPING I WOULD NOT SEE IT, BIG MISTAKE. I TOOK A SHOT WITH THE MARLIN 35 REMINGTON. I DID NOT HEAR THE REASSURING "WHOP" BUT AT THE SHOT THE HOG DISAPPEARRED. WITH MY RUGER 45 COLT/BOWEN PERFECTED BISLEY IN MY BARRANTI LONGHORN COMPAION I WALKED OUT INTO THE FIELD IN THE DIRECTION I LAST SAW THE HOG. 140 YARDS AWAY THERE WAS A GOOD SIZED BOAR, STILL ALIVE BUT UNABLE TO MOVE. A 250gr RNFP SLUG THRU THE HEAD SETTLED THE ACCOUNT THEN, THERE AND PDQ. 3rd HOG AND 4th KILL THIS SEASON @ PDM.

The pic he has from the back of his truck shows some better scale. It’s a good un.
