A local shop got one and while I've never been impressed much with Colt revolvers (SA or DA/SA) I have to say I liked the new Anaconda, quite a bit. For a Smith / Ruger fan that says a lot.
I don't see many ponying up the $1k uplift in buckazoids for the engraving over the polished version but I have to say that revolver is slick. Looking at the muzzle it appears as if the barrel is sleeved or is that stepped crown just a poor choice in the muzzle finish treatment?
I never noticed it before and I've not heard it mentioned anywhere but the cylinder notch is offset from the center of the cylinder. As it is, I wonder if plain vanilla new model at ~ $200 - $500 - uplift in price over the 629 is worth it.
Are there any owners here who have the new snake and possibly even a 629?
PS, I like the fact that it uses Python grips.

I have a new 4.25” Anaconda and several 629’s . The Anaconda is much bigger physically. Bigger frame and the cylinder is 3/16” longer and it’s also bigger in diameter. It won’t even begin to fit in my leather 629 holsters . Weight using a digital postal scale; 4.25” Anaconda : 3 lbs, 0.1 ounces. 6.5” Smith 629 Classic with the full lug barrel: 3 lbs, 0.8 ounces. As you can see from the above weights the Anaconda is a heavy tank . Beautiful fit and finish and Arms Unlimited has them for $1299.00 .

I bought the 6" Anaconda and it's build like a vault.
It's about a perfect happy medium between a 629 and Redhawk. Quality is outstanding.
I'm praying often we see a Anaconda 45 Colt with proper dimensions in the future!!!

I think the chances of that happening are slim at best, but we can dream.

I "ponied" up for the Davidson's engraved model. I also have a pile of S&W N frame revolvers. If, for some reason, I could only choose 1 revolver, the S&W M29 4" ain't going nowhere.😊

Well, I stopped by my LGS again today and they started packing up to attend a gun show, and they made me a great deal on the engraved model and I took it straightaway to the range with my other .44's. Here's the scoop on it. Fit, and finish is excellent. The DA trigger is superb, better than any S&W I own or have owned. The SA which I rarely use has a tiny bit of creep and an almost imperceptible amount of over travel. In lockup it has zero play forward or rotationally. Accuracy at 50' with all of my loads is sub 2" DA. The cast hammer has the very slightest seam on the face that's been 99% polished out and the spur is clean without a single casting imperfection. I'm inclined to believe the barrel is sleeved as both ends have a definite ridge where it meets the "outer" barrel or "shroud" for lack of a better term. I may be wrong but I can not see a reason for them to machine both ends in this manner. Anyway, the weight of this 6" barrel Anaconda is 3 lb. 5 3/4 ounces and the 7.5" barreled Ruger SBH Hunter is 3 lb. 6 oz both were weighed on a digital scale. While they're very close in weight, the Anaconda is better balanced in my hand and due to the DA grip it naturally does not roll. Felt recoil is about the same on both. Obviously shooting the Ruger Bisley 3 3/4" SBH is much more of a handful! The one niggle I have with it is shooting S-L-O-W DA the cylinder locks up at the EXACT moment the hammer starts to fall. "Staging" it like I do with my S&W's the cylinder locks uptight before the hammer falls. Anyway, A young man in the next booth who was shooting a mouse gun and having it print all over the 24" x 36" paper at ~8' shot 6 rounds from the Anaconda and all were inside my reduced size bowling pin at 50'. Maybe I made a big boomer shooter today? :-) Attachments:

Nowhere near as deep as some of my others, e.g., Tyler GW, Altamont, even factory engraved S&W and Vaquero. At least it's better than the terrible scroll work on the Ruger Bisley cylinders. 😂 Either way, I'm a sucker for chicken scratchin' on any gun. 😊

Cool. I was never excited about engraved guns until I made the mistake of sending my ROA to Bobby Tyler. I am hooked now like them women on Bravo TV are hooked on plastic surgery. What can I get engraved next? I haven’t been able to fondle one yet but yours looks good. Might have to stop by the local Bass Pro and check one out. The Taylor’s & Co. Outlaw Series look pretty good also. I have wondered how those and guns like Reeder’s Lazer engraving holdup to lots of handling?

The gunsmith at the store looked at the engraving under magnification and said it's not laser, some odd angled cuts and chatter marks but he couldn't explain the method used. I have a Cimarron Texas Ranger which is laser cut and there's no comparison, the Colt is much deeper.
