As a big fan of the .32 S&W Long cartridge I wondered why Smith never made a .32 Kit gun. I acquired a M-31-1, 4" revolver for the project. Years ago I asked Dave Clements to make me a pre-war style S&W sight. Dave agreed and had me send him the gun so he could mill a proper recess in the top of the frame. He also made me a taller blank front blade. I installed the rear sight with some frame reshaping and fit it flush mount like pre-war Smiths. I also installed, shaped and serrated the new front sight. The revolver was completely hand polished, rust blued with nitre blued screws and small parts. These are the results. A photo with the first five shot target at 25 yards and Sanderson J frame grips. Sights were adjusted. It took me a while to make the English walnut Roper style grips that are now on it. They are checkered 24 lpi. Those are S&W medallions I had gold plated. I hope you think it a worthy project. Shoots great with Federal wadcutters!

Sir, I love the look of your roper grips. The way the front of the grip is straight rather than flaird forward is my personal preference as well. I recently altered a set of altamont's to a similar profile and they fit my hands great.

Nice work! While I usually carry an ACP revolver, the little 32 Hand Ejector has been seen on my hip a few times.

Very nice! You’re killing me here….. Actually they did make one, a short barrel led target hand ejector…very$$ now. I’ve got the 31-1 and I have a pile of David’s sights that I bought when he was liquidating parts. Have a 631 so do I really have a place in the stable for a blue one? I’d probably have the chambers lengthened for a .32 H&R if I had the work done. All that being said, my 31-1 does really well with wadctuuers as well as the .32 Keith bullet as well. Here are some of mine… singleactions.proboards.com/thread/30032/32Not quite the same but here’s a custom .38 Special that’s very similar that is very nice:

SDH, you fit in here like a guys well worn Stetson! Just feels right and natural! Many of us are custom revolver junkies and to suddenly be exposed to the type and quality of work you have shown from a person mostly known as a long gun artist is like a breathe of fresh air! It is a good thing you were disciplined enough to publicly focus on long guns or you would have a bunch of us pestering you for custom projects! I know you definitely would have been on my “Quest” gun short list!

Great target grips? Did you notice how I centered the medallion on my J Ropers ignoring the stock circle? BTW: I pretty much lost interest in S&Ws when the went to Stainless Steel so I don't know or have any real interest in the 600 guns. Don't own, or hanker to own any SS~
