OK so I was looking at some relatively cheap (less expensive) .32 H&R and .327 revolvers when I came across a couple of S&W Model 30-1 .32 S&W Long revolvers. I do like the better quality of the older Smiths plus no lock. I think this may be what my wife needs.

I’ve also got a 30-1. I really like the gun. I shoot a 100grSWC over unique. I get around 900fps. I was thinking of getting another and looking into getting it rechambered or warming up the load to 32h&r as a carry. Thoughts??

EVEN IF THEY ARE J FRAMES, IF IT WERE ME I WOULD LEAVE 'em AS IS - 45MAN

Do not "warm up the load" in these revolvers, there will be issues. Stick to book loads. These are fine revolvers but can be damaged by heavy loads. Stick to book max loads and shoot them forever.

The 32 S & W long's never were and never will be stopping guns without very precise shooting on the shooters part. There is no magic bullet that will make them stoppers. That's one reason we have and carry bigger guns today. I AM NOT SAYING YOU ARE UNARMED WITH A .32 , far from it, you just have to practice more, be very precise, and keep shooting. A very hard task under extreme stress. JMHO.

MY FIRST 32 S&W LONG WAS AN EARLY 1950's 2" DETECTIVE SPECIAL WITH "COLT WOOD" GRIPS. IT HAD BEEN A DETECTVE's DUTY GUN, SHOWING CARRY WEAR BUT NOT A LOT OF SHOOTING WEAR & TEAR. I PRIMARILY USED IT AS A PORCH GUN UP AT MY RANCH (FOR SMALL CRITTERS). I AM A SEASONED pistolero, AND OWN MANY BETTER OPTIONS, SO IT WOULD NOT BE MY FIRST CHOICE AS A DEFENSIVE GUN, BUT FOR A LOT OF FOLKS A 32 S&W LONG WITH FULL WADCUTTERS IS A BETTER OPTION THAT A FIRE BREATHER.

Before penicillin, you didn’t need to stop somebody to kill them. A gut shot was a death sentence.
