After the success of the Ruger #3 in 256 Winchester, I decided to move forward with another project.
A few years back, I purchased a Stainless/Walnut Ruger #1 chambered in 30-30 Winchester. I bought it with the full intention of rechambering to Ackley Improved.
But, it shot so well, I never got around to it. It's a great cast bullet gun too.
Today, I decided to move forward with my original plan. Off went the barreled action to Jack.
When he rechambered and remarked my Henry Single Shot, it didn't loose any accuracy. To boot, .5 more grains of Unique provided the same cast bullet fun.
"Improved" means a bit more in a strong Single Shot Rifle.
Clearly, powder capacity is increased when Improved. Unlike Lever Guns, Single Shots don't require the deep seating round or flat nosed bullets. That provides a second advantage.
Lastly, the 30-30 Case is not weak!!! This is another rumor that just won't die. Luckily, TC Contender Enthusiasts have debunked that many times.
All this adds up to a 150 grn SST at 2600 fps in my Henry Single Shot. I figure the Ruger will do the same.
Comments and Suggestions Welcomed...

The other day Trapr stopped by my shop and I could see he was clearly aware that I was hopelessly entrenched in all things that go bang. He didn’t even suggest that I might need to seek help….
You go brother. I know where a Marlin 30-30AI is and I’ve been plotting on it for years….

In my limited experience with a limited amount of cartridges, I haven’t seen a downside to the “Improved” chamberings. I’ve also got a bit of a soft-spot for the venerable .30-30. A Ruger No1 in .30-30AI would be a dream rifle for the Northeast hilly stuff I’ve been playing around in. With a low power variable optic, it’d be a fantastic stalker.

Fermin and Tim, Thanks...
I do realize this would have been a more logical approach before I shipped the rifle.
But, there's still time to make changes before Jack starts on this project.

Turning some the great, into something better, guns are sold to be improved, in my opinion, and what a great cartridge to improve, I fully support your decision.

I don't see a reason the 30-30AI in a No 1 can't be loaded to near 300 Savage performance in a No 1.
Heavy as the No 1 is, I tend to prefer it in a chambering that justifies the heft and I think 30-30AI just fits that bill.
A No 1 scaled down for 223/357/30-30 sized cases would win me over for handiest carrying rifle. I enjoy the low wall in that role, but the action of the No 1 is more hunter-friendly.

LOL, I was just fixing to post the similarly between the 30-30 AI and the 300 Savage. It's just about a ballistic twin from my Henry Single Shot.
But, I've learned something about Leverevolution Powder too. It likes heavy bullets.
I can't say in all barrel lengths, but in my 22" the 165s shoot almost as fast as the 150s. They have a better BC and are a better choice for longer ranges...

When I contemplate projects like this, I chuckle at how these oldies hang in there.
How cartridges like the 300 Savage, 307 Winchester and 308 Marlin Express have come and gone.
All should have unseated the 30-30 WCF and made it obsolete.
But, they've come and gone while 30-30 WCF sales move right along.
When Ruger started production of Marlin Rifles under their ownership, the 45-70 and 30-30 were the first to be released.
Two of our oldest cartridges. Newer "superior" offerings may come, but were skipped over for what sells.
The above mentioned 30s, 444 Marlin, 450 Marlin, etc are still MIA...

I gave my first hunting rifle, a pre 64 model 94 in 30-30 to my youngest son since he took his first deer with it. Bittersweet remorse would be my best description. I love the 30-30 and single shots so a combination of the two would be something I’d jump on. Just haven’t found one yet in my neighborhood.

Can understand all of that completely. The fine single shot rifles are getting harder to find.
The Henry Single Shot is a great budget rifle that usually has fantastic wood on them.
My only remaining 30-30 WCF Rifle is my old Remington 788. A deadly accurate gun that's brute strong too. It'll never be converted or sold if I have my way. It's a gem of a gun...

I would love to see Ruger either produce the #1 in greater numbers or sell the Model to somebody who would. A #1A in .338-06 AI would be just the ticket to push my Retirment back a couple months. ...tj

This gun is a Ruger K1A. More specifically their very lightweight offering.
It weighs exactly 7 lb with the scope rings on my scale. Rare happening, but exactly what Ruger says it weighs.
That's 1/2 lb less than the New Ruger Marlin 336 in 30-30 WCF and has 2" more barrel...

This gun was delivered to Jack's Capable Hands today. Now it's just a waiting game.
Hopefully, not too long though. Some of the "no parts needed" projects go pretty fast. With the shortage of parts, these projects keep our smiths working while they await availability...
