An old no-name, rebuilt Italian 1860 repro and a Sheffield bowie purloined from the table of an outdoor market for 20 bucks. The '60 turned out to be a real decent shooter and clobbered a lot of garden robbers for a couple of years.

Sarge, Love your picture, my Uberti 1860 army is my favorite revolver anymore. I have it sighted in with conicals, I hunted with it my whole deer season last year. It's a joy to look at during lulls in the action. Thanks for sharing.

This pic below is from about a year and a half ago. Rented a cabin south of Livingston MT. On my leather cartridge belt, I had my 70s era Sharpfinger, my Flattop .45, and a Winchester Model 94 for daytime and evening walks. as in that part of the Rockies, man is definitely NOT at the top of the food chain.

Late last summer/fall/early winter, my oldest daughter worked as a cowboy, wrangler for a guide outfit in the backcountry of Idaho. I gave her my old 2.5" Model 19 Smith, loaded with wide nose Keith loads (first two were snake shot), in a Milt Sparks rig, as well as loaning her my old knife. She is a pretty fair hand with a revolver, so I figured it was a solid setup for her in case she ran into some sort of trouble.

.45 Colt Blackhawk with a custom skinner from an unknown maker. The knife was a gift and has my name engraved on it. I was told the scales are aged whitetail antler. Attachments:

MackaySagebrush, I keep going back and looking at the pictures of the country where your daughter is working for the outfitter, probably looked at them 30 times already.
All I can say is I envy her for doing what she wants to do, wished I would’ve done something like that.
Congrats to her and you!

I told her that she had better do it now if she wants to, as life has a way of getting us tied down later on, and there can be many things a person wished they would have done. I worked for an outfitter and guide ranch on the Salmon River in the Frank Church when I got out of the service and told her to just do it, and be glad to have the opportunity. You don't want to be in your twilight years talking about the things you "could have" done. Better to do them, even if you fail a few times. Life is about constantly learning and growing. Some of what I did when she was a baby came at a cost, but I was determined not to say " I could have done this" I just went and did it. She now understands better why I was gone so often. You only get one chance at life. She is doing her own thing too. She competes in mounted shooting and does well.

Outstanding! I’m not in my twilight years but I was one of those knuckleheads who stayed close to home after I got out of school, not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I tell all these young kids nowadays to get out and see and do things, you can most usually come back home later on.

Awesome pictures, thanks for sharing MackaySagebrush. I never got out and did a lot of different things. I found early on I liked knives, fishing, and guns. that's pretty much all I've done. I wish I'd had the chance to do it out west, but perhaps one day I will make it out there somewhere. For now I'm enjoying being daddy to a 3 year old. He's getting all the loves I have, including the most important, for the Lord.

Everything comes at a cost. But still life should be (at least to my way of thinking) a constant learning and growing process and experience. Back to the topic of guns and knives, Instead of "don't touch" I went a different route with my oldest. I said, here let me show you the correct and safe way to handle guns and knives: Turned her into a little Wolverine! While other boys received nerf guns for their Christmas presents, I would bet that she was the only 11 year old who received a brace of .45 Colt Ruger Montados. As well as build fires!
