I can say that I have been well pleased with my 4.25" Model 69. Just shot it this evening in fact. I find it about perfect size and it has real accuracy potential with cast bullets.

Trying to find a price for these things is all over the place.

I have two 4" 69's. They have both been back to S&W for repair and one needs to go back again.

Yeah I agree with Tentcamper, I have never had a moments problem with either one of mine. One I've had since 2015. Brian Pearce has written extensively about the strength and accuracy of the 69.

I have a 2 3/4" model that had to go back due to the shroud being tilted . To their credit, I did get it back in a week and the shroud looks perfectly strait now . Aside from that problem, it is a solid gun. probably could use the throats opened a bit , but in all fairness that is with about any manufacturer these days except Freedom Arms and Rugers made on Wednesday .

I had to send a GP100 back to Ruger. They repaired it and had it back to me in about a week. I've had lots of Rugers and only one gave me problems. Excellent customer service and and a great product. Now that I am getting more into Smiths I'll see what they bring but so far I'm impressed. Gonna hafta get a few more sooner than later.
All mechanical things can and will have problems. Ruger, Smith, Colt... maybe I'm lucky but even my Taurus Tracker 44 mag has been problemless so far. Lol

If you had the choice of the model 69 4 inch, or could get a 4 inch or 5 inch model 629 for $100 more. Which would you get??

At my age and size I appreciate the L Frame much more. And I shoot the 69 better. If you can pack an N frame 5" go for it.

Mine has quickly become my favorite DA revolver: It also carries very nicely in one of Doc Barranti’s CCR holsters.

One of them had the barrel rotate in the frame. Both of them shot way high with any bullets heavier than 200 grains. And one of them arrived with one cylinder that would bind up when cocked. Smith failed to fix the rear sight problem on one....that's why it needs to go back again, and it looks like the barrel is starting to rotate again in the first one they fixed.....and they charged me $130 to not fix the rear sight on the second one. But they "polished" the cylinders on gun number two to fix the "sticky extraction", which was never a problem. I don't know where they came up with that.
At the same time all that was going on, my new S&W 60 3" Pro had the barrel rotate in the frame as well and had to go back. Prior to this chit-show, I hadn't bought a new Smith since the 80's when I bought a pair of no-dash 629's and both of them had terrible problems with the cylinders backing up making them 3 shooters.

I have a 625-3 that also has a barrel tightening itself as I shoot it . Probably a good 50% more canted than yours in the pic . Pretty much useless now until it gets fixed .

I have the 2-3/4" 69 and it's a great revolver. Here in FL, though, it's never cool enough to wear under a jacket except for about 4 days a year so it mostly sits in a drawer waiting for an emergency at the house. I may see about trading it in on another pocket pistol later this year.
I've only fired a cylinder-full of some 240 gr. 44 magnum cartridges, so mostly 44 Special fired at the range in Oregon before we moved here to FL.
