Engraving is a matter of personal taste. Sometimes I feel it adds and other times I feel it detracts or subtracts from an item's appearance. The wide range of engraving styles (and costs) can provide a choice for just about any taste. I know guys who have bought side by side shotguns because of who engraved them. One friend bought a pair of Holland & Holland shotguns for that reason. The engraver, a man from Belgium, was his "grail" engraver. He told me that the engraver would take at least a month to engrave all the parts of one shotgun and receive $30,000 for the job-more if the job entailed gold inlays. This was several years ago. Who knows what the cost would be today. Westley Richards has offered a "Gold Name" version of their shotguns. It's devoid of engraving other than their name, which is engraved with gold inlay. It has always looked too plain to me. On the other hand, engraving under case colors can look funky to me. Here is a double lock-back folding knife that P.J.Tomes made for me that I recently got back from Steve Dunn, who engraved it. It has American scroll as its design core. The photo doesn't do it justice. It was my first experience working with an engraver. I sent him some photos of styles I liked and he took it from there. I'm still getting used to it. Kinda like seeing a woman wearing makeup for the first time.

Is the Belgian engraver Baptiste? I like some engraving and some styles. I prefer when it has some air to breathe I.e. not covering every square millimeter. Not really a fan of bulino.

I forget-could be Grifnee? I believe the shotguns were made in the mid-90's-a matched pair of 28's.

ENGRAVED GUNS ARE SCARCE HERE AT THE GARZA HOUSEHOLD, JUST 2 (IIRC), BOTH S&W REVOLVERS. ALWAYS THOUGHT OF HAVING 1 SPECIAL SHOOTING REVOLVER ENGRAVED BUT WAS NEVER EVER TO DESIGNATE THE FINALIST. I APPRECIATE ENGRAVED GUNS, LIKE LOOKING AT THEM AND HAVE EVEN ALMOST BOUGHT SEVERAL MORE, BUT MAN O' MAN CAN ENGRAVING ADD TO THE COST OF GUN ACCUMULATING. BUT YOU GUYS THAT HAVE THEM, PLEASE SHARE THEM WITH US.

The only engraved gun I have now is a factory engraved nickel M36 Chiefs Special from 1969.
As soon as Bobby Tyler gets around to it, I will have an Old Model 357,too.

Well I have posted it all over but I will again here since you asked so nicely. It is the first gun I have ever had engraved but it turned out so well I am thinking about having a 1911 done. Bobby Tyler made it easy, I told him how much I could spend and I didn’t want anything gaudy. I think it came out just right, not too much and not too little. I do love the looks of a fully engraved masterpiece especially on fine British double rifles but those are out of my price range. I do know that the next one I do will go to Bobby Tyler and Rocky Sharp

Question about the cylinders. With the ones engraved between the notches, how does the engraving hold up?

I do like that Clements 10mm. Just the right amount. I should have kept mine. The slabbed barrel makes a perfect canvas

Question about the cylinders. With the ones engraved between the notches, how does the engraving hold up? It really doesn't make sense to have it there on New Model Rugers but my RSSE does have a little bit. I have many, many rounds through that gun and many more dry fires and it hasn't been an issue that I've noticed.

I have one engraved rifle my grandfather left to me....pre64 M70 in 30-06. It was engraved in Japan in the mid 50s, I dont know who did it. Its very unique to say the least. It also has a silver (Im assuming) inlay of a bear. The rifle is very dear to me! The stock is heavily engraved also.
