Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, hunting in the morning and eating the rest of the week. I was not disappointed this morning with a extended game of predator and prey that had this nervous big doe take forever to come in to feed and allow me a reasonable shot with my .327 Single Seven. For nearly an hour she started, stopped, head checked, attempted to wind me, came , left, returned again before giving me a shot flirting with 50 yards. The 100 grain Gold Dot did its work( which is quite a bit more than we would imagine), and I collected this big smart girl.

Very nice - show the results of the retrieved bullet, please. Those Gold Dots/Deep Curls do not disappoint.

I used the Speer factory load that clocks 1565 fps from my gun. The bullet was stopped in the hair on the offside after BREAKING both shoulders. The deer reacted immediately to the shot , that was low and forward of ideal, and crashed within sight after a 70 yard struggling run. The .327 always exceeds my expectations. The 100 grain Gold Dot behaves like the very best big game bullet could be expected to, penetration and catalog quality expansion balanced. I would rather hunt with it than any 125-140 grain .357 Mag load I have tried. Here is the 100 grain Gold Dot recovered from the sizable doe It looks rough, but it did the job of penetrating and causing trauma beyond caliber size, where commonly repeated internet lore says a hollow point would have failed, having over expanded and under penetrated.

For those who hunt for the experience rather than for a trophy, this is an outstanding handgun hunting story. Much respect for using a gun and load you trusted and being proven right.

That gun/round combination is awesome. To me it is underrated.

The 327 and 32-20 are very capable rounds. Your experience goes far to prove that's true.
Congratulations and thanks for posting this...

This is one of the best hunting stories I've read in a long time, congratulations on your success with the single seven, the Speer Deep Curls/Gold Dot bullets are a favorite of mine, I wish they were more available as components right now, my 41 supply is getting low.
