Sometimes you gotta laugh at life. Yesterday, I shipped my FA97 45 Colt back to Freedom Arms for an auxiliary cylinder in 45 ACP and other work.
This morning, a fellow customer was in my LGS complaining his handloaded ammo wouldn't fit his New FA97. He was too irrational to reason with and declared he was going to sell it.
So, I looked at it and asked what he'd take for it. Turned out to be a 5.5" 97 in 45 Colt with the auxiliary 45 ACP Cylinder. The gun has an action job, round butt, New Lovell Mount and a Leupold 2x Scope with it.
He stood there a minute and told me $2250 and said that was a Hell of a lot less than he had in it.
He had the receipt from FA in the box, so I didn't hesitate to grab the gun.
Then, I had to call Lori at Freedom Arms and ask her to cancel the auxiliary cylinder on my gun, but proceed with the other work.
I'll leave the gun with open sights and never use the mount. I may sell it later or keep it for a more suited revolver.
The scope is new and doesn't even have mounting marks. Extra scopes never hurt anything...
Pics later this evening, I hope...

Both cylinders have .4525" +/- Throats.
The 45 ACP Cylinder is already boxed up to be shipped to a friend to be cut for the 45 Auto Rim. This does not inhibit the use of 45 ACP Ammo/Brass.
This gun will become a designated 45 AR Gun...
You're correct, Life is Good...

Well, I don't work there or I'd have the same problem. I was just there as a customer.
The FA97 is the perfect home for the 44 Special. I think that'll carry over to the 45 Auto Rim...

Heck yeah! Then the stars really did line up for you! Actually I cant think of any cartridge the FA97 isn't perfect for.

It's best with the shorter cartridges. The guy actually sold the gun because his handloaded 45 Colt was too long for the cylinder!!!
I have a 41 Mag and 45 Colt (x2). Just have to select the right bullets...

Thanks Tim...
So, this is the gun. As posted earlier, the auxiliary cylinder is packed up for shipping.
The bullets are my choice for most of my 45 Auto Rim guns. They are GT 250 grn HPs. Much shorter nosed bullets are required for the 45 Colt Ammo.
They seat very shallow in the case. At 45 Super (28k PSI) Pressures, they make about 1100 fps in a good revolver. Powder charge weights are surprisingly low.
This will handle most of my revolver needs where I live...

Just have to select the right bullets... ...sounds like dflave over on the 24HrCF... I visited with him in 2014 when he lived in Montana...shot my .41 and fell into immediate lust. Bought a 97/.44 Sp./ 4.25" and then sold it when his handloads wouldn't fit.... There is a thread over there titled "FA, are they worth it" and he tells his experience... Unfortunately all the cylinder needed was a trip to Fermin to have the throat opened a little... That was a great deal encore...I would have grabbed it and sent it back to Wyoming and had the barrel cut to 4.25"...just love shorties... Bob

Great taste in that build my friend. By my experience, the 45 ACP is an excellent choice, have case's of that stuff from back in the day...lol

This is my first FA with the Round Butt Gripframe. I like it, but no better than the standard offering.
Bob, I agree on the 44 Special throats. The 45s come with .452" Plus, ideal with cast bullets.
My 44 Special would not pass a jacketed .429" bullet. Dave Clements opened them to .430" and I honed them smooth after I got it back. Now, it's ideal for cast or jacketed.

I sold the Leupold Scope and Lovell Mount to a fellow forum member yesterday evening. He had a need for it, I did not.
It saved him almost $300 and lowered the cost of the gun considerably for me. It's great when things work out like this.
The 45 AR Cylinder Conversion won't take long. I'll be up and running on this one in short order.
I think it'll give the 44 Special a run for it's money with good handloads of Longshot, Power Pistol and similar powders.
It'll definitely be more versatile and readily shoot 45 Colt, 45 Cowboy Special, 45 Super, 45 ACP (+P) and 45 Auto Rim...
