The 45 Schofield is a ballistic twin to the 44 Special. It produces 1200 fps with a 250 grn at <30k PSI.
The 45 Auto Rim is also ideal in these small guns.
Was notified today that the ACP Cylinder has be cut for the Auto Rim and will be headed home tomorrow.

How well does the Auto Rim perform in the S&W 25s and 625s?

You are giving me bad ideas. I don’t need another gun, I don’t need another gun. I do need another gun. Dang!

Have been shooting AR since the 1970s...have to look up the loads but I know some with light weight JHPs were going well over 1100 fps...
Only problem with those older 25-2s was the rifling was very shallow, loose throats and accuracy with most bullets not that great. The best load was with a Speer 225 JHP and I believe 6.0 grains of UNIQUE that was suggested in one of Bob Milek G&A articles...

The Ramshot Enforcer loads are particularly useful in the S&W 25s and my Clements 6-Shot Custom 45 AR built on a Ruger Midframe Flattop.
Velocity will match a 45 Super in the revolvers...

A few details about this conversion to 45 Auto Rim...
The 45 ACP Cylinder had .011" clearance behind it. Measuring the cylinder length with and without a 45 ACP Case seated showed the case protruded .007" from the cylinder.
We sampled a handful of 45 Auto Rim Brass and found an average Rim Thickness of .084".
With this information, the Rim Recesses were cut .077" Deep. So, clearance between the case and gun will be .004" more or less...

the Rim Recesses were cut .077" Deep. Assuredly less elegant but, would there be any issue if you just "faced off" the back of the cyl? Seems so much simpler than recessing.

I cannot imagine how bad that would look. Especially with the traditional way FA counterbores their cylinders. I realize that's what S&W does. But, they're counting on you using moon clips. With a Single Action, it's a different world. It would be simpler, no doubt. I just prefer classy. To each their own...

Thanks Tim...
Just some published data to show the velocities possible with Standard and +P Pressures. These loads are even safe in the Midframes.
As previously posted, revolvers generally produce higher velocities too. Ditto on lubed, cast bullets...

It would definitely work. Outside of the rim being 50% thicker, it would work like any other rimmed revolver cartridge.

Learned more about this gun earlier this morning.
Went to store the box in my usual plastic bin and found paperwork under the foam.
Seems the previous owner had this gun overhauled in September of this year.
Action Job, All New Springs and Screws, Round Butt Grip Conversion and added a 45 ACP Cylinder.
This makes even less sense to me. But, I've given up on figuring people out...
UPDATE: Just rec'd a text from the USPS that the modified cylinder is Out For Delivery. Fun stuff, updates this evening...
