First off, I truly appreciate all the positive posts about this gun.
I don't post on any forums besides this one. After dealing with the members here, every other forum would be a let down. This is simply the finest group of gun folks an enthusiast could pray to be associated with.
I'll just accept the gun as it came to me. It's rare to find such a finely crafted piece of machinery.
I'm primarily a Single Action Guy. But, many guns like this and the last CZ/Colts I bought, I can learn to be flexible...

A 57-4 would be a grail gun for me, I collect primarily early to mid 90s S&W revolvers, in my opinion that is when the company was in peak performance. An N frame of that era would be the strongest they ever made. I have multiple 29-6s and 629-4s from the same time period but the 57-4 would be a real find. Those grips are not original to the gun, they are altamont made with S&W medallions. Original Square butt combat grips are much thicker. These would be an example of originals

Thanks Matt, I believe your information is all 100% correct. Quality is certainly of the highest possible.
I also agree on the grips...
Thanks again for the information...

Double Thanks to Matt56...
His picture made me realize I didn't have scope mounts for these revolvers.
Got online and found a few discontinued models still in stock and snagged them.
Weigand, Millett, etc

Thanks Tim...
I shot the gun from my bench. Had some loads for my FA97, but figured they'd suffice.
These were midrange loads using Missouri Coated Cast Bullets and Unique.
The gun is shooting 2" high, but I suspect that is from the extended barrel dwell time from the reduced velocity.
I was ecstatic with the groups. But, you can usually tell by the fitting and tolerances of a gun if it'll shoot.
There's plenty of sight adjustment left if I want to use these type of loads, which I possibly will...

I've had great success with tolerances tapering down like they do on this gun.
Chamber exits .001" smaller than they start. Bore groove .001" smaller than throat exits.
This one is .001" smaller in all three respects than I'd have ordered the reamer.
But, .411" SWCs seat just fine and it's hard to argue with the accuracy.
Sierra and Hornady Jacketed Bullets pass thru the throats. I'll probably lower the rear sight and call it a keeper...

I have a cylinder
I'll have to measure it sometime when I'm thinking about it

Huey, I think I have one of those. I measured it and noted it was excellent dimensionally. I guess now I have to dig it out and shoot it…

This one will never be hot rodded, but will definitely be shot. A certain guy who attempts to build custom revolvers told me I worry about dimensions and fitting too much. Possibly true, but it matters...
