Now, the first thing I'll admit is my ignorance of S&W Revolvers. I do like the N-Frame Revolvers and this the fourth I've added to my battery.
This one is Pre-Safety and in absolute 100% Condition.
I was told the grips came on the gun. I'm not convinced, but I'm not a collector anyways.
I've got a little under $700 tied up in the gun. Of course, the value of stuff has gone up since I purchased the trade fodder.
More after Tim posts pictures and any information will be appreciated...

Thanks Tim...
Did a full cleaning job on the gun since I posted. Always measure everything carefully when I do.
Barrel Gap is .006". This isn't great, but not unusual or terrible for a double action. Back of the barrel is square and measures the same from both sides.
Throats are .411"+ at the chamber, but taper to .410" about 1/10" from the exits.
Interestingly enough, bore slugged just about .409", maybe just under. It's not easy to measure any closer than that. Maybe a great cast bullet gun?
Chamber alignment is perfect on all six chambers. Clearly built during a time when pride was still found in American Manufacturing.
Seams and fitting of the crane are absolutely pristine. Not always the case with any gun.

Thanks Trent...as you and Tim know, I'm always looking for really nice N-Frames.
Recently, I've passed on a M27 Classic and 610 because craftsmanship was so terrible.
I'll keep looking and maybe occasionally find a good one...

That's a beauty for sure. Good score!
It's the ONLY N-frame I'm lacking in my bunch.

Just a guess but if the gun is a round butt or the topstrap is drilled then the grips may be original to the gun, if not then I’d say the chance is much less likely. They do look like the style they made for square butt guns just before transitioning to round butting them. As I remember they were very comfortable

Not being a collector, all I cared about was they fit the hand exceptionally well.

It does have the longer stop notch and that's a good thing. The dash 4 was deployed in 1993 and the mod.57 was discontinued in 1993 so yup, probably not many out there. In fact, EVERY model 57 I have ever laid hands on was a no dash. 41mag had lost favor in those years and it seems few of any dash marked guns got sold.

While older is typically better with S&W N-frames, it sounds like you made sure the quality was up to historical standards. Congratulations! You’re ahead of the game, for what you have into it. -Bill

You did very well...this is the first -4 I can remember seeing. When I read your title line I didn't even remember there was a -4.
As to the stocks...I don't recall seeing anything of that style until the 2000s.
Best place to ask is over on the S&W Forums...
