A friend/customer of mine had Larry Smith make him a couple braided leather lanyards for his Bowen revolvers. I've never had one in hand, but remember liking what I saw in the pics he sent. I decided I was going to have one made to try, but unfortunately Larry was gone by then. If anyone has any of his revolver lanyards, I'd love to see pics, and get measurements if possible to try and get someone to do one for me. I tried one of the heavy British military lanyards off ebay but it was a bit too short for me. Also, if anyone has other lanyards they like, or knows of anyone else doing similar stuff to what Larry did I'd be interested in having a look. Also, interested in hearing from guys who actually use lanyards in the field, or have in the past about handiness, especially with other stuff on.

The lanyards Bowen used to sell are really nice, like the British style you speak of but high quality. I’d about kill to get my hands on a couple more….

A friend has one from Bowen I've never tried, but hoping to this week to see if it would work for me if I could find one of my own. He uses it a lot so not even gonna ask about buying his, but I've always liked them also. They look like they'd last as long as the user.

I had one of Bowen’s in a drawer but since I gave the gun to my son, it went with him.

Mr. Taffin, that bearcat with lanyard ring has extra cool factor!
I've wanted a Bowen gun with one of his lanyard rings. My only Bowen custom lacks the ring. I just can't get it in my mind to have another smith install one of his rings. The rear sights no big deal. I easily swap those myself.
I like the looks of lanyards. Most of the custom aspects I pay to have done are for my own vanity not function.

If you play on or around water, on horseback or ATV's, a lanyard seems wise. I've brought this up at least twice myself.. Last time LeadHound took pity on me and sent me a lanyard ring. Pains me to say I haven't chosen which gun to put it on and get it done ! On one of my previous threads, someone brought up having a slot milled into the bottom of the grip frame and a cross pin put thru.. Nothing protrudes. That a likely solution too.

I don’t care for the jingle jangle noise they make, however. On a boat, raft, or any trip where rough riding and tumbling could be a definite concern I’d like something to keep the gun and me together. I’ve even considered something like the retractable key keeper. Finding a nice lanyard of leather or cord would nice, but knowing what length works for your individual needs would be paramount, I’ve also not been impressed with the little clip used on all the ones I’ve seen.

I swore by a lanyard while serving in the Marine Corps, over 20 years I saw too weapons lost. Two times proved to me a lanyard is awesome, once an M-16 slid overboard on ship into the ocean off the coast of Somalia, the other time was in Spain when a pistol was accidentally dropped into the community trench toilet. Those two instances taught me to use a dummy cord/lanyard on all weapons and other essential gear.
