I don’t know that I still have very many 45-70s. Last one I bought may have been this short one from WWGs. I think they marked it as their 458 something. I don’t know that I’ve ever even pulled the trigger on it. Nothing fancy, Parkerized finish, standard wood etc. I think there is also a park’d safety delete in the drawer for it. Not sure why it wasn’t in the gun yet? Just an easier way for me to lose it I suppose. 🤣 I don’t think I still have a scope on it and have considered getting it out and shooting it for a truck gun since it’s so short. Nice rifle overall.

If a guy could not use a 475 revolver on an African DG hunt then a seriously loaded 45-70 lever gun would be my next choice. When my dad bought his B-78 7 mag years ago, his cousin bought one in 45-70. It was his “sneak into the bulls bedroom and shoot him” elk rifle.

Got close to having 40 at one time. Down to 35 or so. It was a powerful addiction at one time.

Yep. Compared to alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, etc. that may have no residual value guns can be downright cheap.

My divorce left me gun poor, but I'm steadily recovering. Only 45-70 for now is a 14" contender. But I'm watching the reviews of the Ruger Marlin closely.

But I'm watching the reviews of the Ruger Marlin closely. ***** Sure your .45-70 Contender hasn’t a 16-1/4” barrel? Thompson/Center introduced the .45-70 Contender with barrel long enough to use as a carbine with T/C optional buttstock. T/C configured the Contender Super 14 (14” bull barrel) for IHMSA Unlimited category competition (15” barrel limit). T/C had no illusion the silhouetters would care to bust steel with a .45-70, introducing the meatball chambering a couple of years after the Rocks & Dynamite era. Nevertheless, I did exactly that, bring the Contender .45-70 to an IHMSA match, with a supply ammo north of Trapdoor loading, for competitors to have at it (Most, for conservation of anatomy, felt better shooting the cannon offhand, as opposed to Creedmoor or Dead Frog.) I had one of the later 12” compensated barrels, fun gun to shoot, and hunt with, cushioned back of grip was nice addition as well.

I still haven’t fired this one I posted a few years ago from Keith DeHarts estate. Such a cool one of a kind handgun.

David Bradshaw Nope. Unvented Super 14. It's a monster to shoot. I probably haven't mounted it on a frame in 20 years. Might have to break it out this week. My dad has a vented version that's easier to shoot, but still not very comfortable

Zeus... can you tell us more??? kinda looks like a Witchita protype??? It’s a gun Keith did for his personal collection. He built every part of it minus the barrel blank of course. The bottom model was a test run to make sure the falling block parts would work. He built it from micarta and steel. I can’t remember when I posted the pics originally here but it’s a neat piece of history from a man that I believe may have been the smartest mechanical mind I ever sat and spoke with. He was an awesome guy to sit and discuss firearms with.
