I’m thinking about loading some +P 45ACP ammo for my convertible Blackhawk. I want to use heavy lead bullets (230-255 grn). These will be for revolver use only, no semiautomatics.
Looking for some opinions, experience, and maybe some load data on the subject. Any advice is appreciated.

Is this a Full Sized Blackhawk or Midframe Flattop Blackhawk?

Definitely good for 30k PSI. I think I'd just do a search for pressure tested 45 Super Data. It operates at 28k and should be ideal.
Just be careful and work up slowly. Those small capacity cases are really sensitive to seating depth.
Silhouette, Power Pistol, Longshot, etc are excellent powders for this.

I'll add HS6 to that list of powders, works great in my 45 convertible.

Actually, about 200 fps...
I really don't think that'll do much in a defense situation, but in hunting...
It's really amazing what some of the newer powders can do. For that matter, what some of the older powders can do with the right loads.
230 grn @ 1000 fps - 510 fpe 230 grn @ 1200 fps - 735 fpe
A gain of 44% fpe...

Thanks for the replies so far.
Are there any concerns about seating depth or case bulge if I put a 255 LSWC in the ACP case? I just got another 1,200 of those bullets, coated, from Acme. I've bought them before and had pretty decent results with them so far in the 45 Colt cylinder when I bought them before.
I am mostly trying this in order to (1) reduce the amount of powder I'm burning per shot to save some money, based on the smaller case capacity of the ACP versus the Colt, and (2) to use the large amount of once-fired ACP cases I have laying around.
I don't enjoy the 700-800 fps loads in 45 Colt nearly as much as the 900-1,000 fps second loads, so I load most of my 45 Colt in that upper range. Just trying to get the ACP somewhere around there with the 255 grain bullet.

If the bullets are sized to fit the throats, just don't seat them as deep. You don't need a cannelure to taper crimp...

Here are a couple I've used in my S&W Performance Center 625-8 (4-inch bbl.). Bullet: Blue Bullets 250 gr. RNFP (Polymer Coated/.4515) Powder: Alliant Power Pistol 5.7 grs. Primer: Federal 150 Case: Starline 45 Auto Rim LOAL: 1.200 Average Velocity: 714.13 fps ES: 11.94 SD: 5.09 Bullet: Sierra 240 gr. JHC Powder: Alliant Power Pistol 8.0 grs. Primer: Winchester Large Pistol Case: Winchester .45 ACP LOAL: 1.200 Average Velocity: 975.60 fps ES: 17.98 SD: 6.92 And a couple of good articles... I don't think 45 Auto Rim brass will work in a Blackhawk - but still good info. Heavy Bullets in the .45 ACP.pdf (45.39 KB) 45 Auto Rim Gun Digest.pdf (606.89 KB)

The Sierra Bullets Reloading Manual has a 45 ACP (Revolver) section worked up in a Freedom Arms M83.
