I think that would be a fun rifle, not sure why you would make it a 480 Ruger and not a full 475 Linebaugh but then I am a 480 Ruger guy anyways.
I look at that and think it would be a heck of a fun pig gun.

It would be easy enough to run a 475 reamer. I don't know if that would affect the regulation and if it does, then forget it. You don't mess with the voodoo in the barrels on a double!

You don’t need to ream the chamber to make a .475, just use 480 brass and load long to .475 OAL loaded length. There is no cylinder or barrel face to worry about, I’d bet even with the leade used you could make .475 length. The biggest issue is what is it regulated for??? Once you get to far beyond that then you’re screwed as far as accuracy.

That’s why it probably won’t work…it’s regulated for factory 325 XTP.

Very cool build, and not sure I'd change a thing. A peep sight with a large aperture is as fast as express sights, though you can't have additional leaves and you might lose a little precision.
The rail works since there are lots of quality QD mounts now. A Z6i in 1.7-10x would be perfect, and you could swap for a thermal easily.
I think 480 is the more reasonable chambering. Factory ammo or a hand loaded duplicate is easy enough, and you gain little with 475 in exchange for the potential for carbon buildup at the case neck when going from 480 to 475. Can't easily find 475 ammo, but I see 480 at the LGS.

Good points PJ. That's very logical. There is something pretty nice about it being regulated for factory ammo that's relatively easy to find or duplicate.
I'm talking to the builder right now about the potential for a 500 Linebaugh or 500 Max double rifle build. He's done one 500L so far.

Absolutely don’t change it. If you find a load with a double that regulates properly you don’t mess with it. We had a devil of a time sorting out what load my uncles H&H 500BPE Damascus hammer gun was regulated for when it was made in 1880 or so. The powder charge was clear enough, sorted out the bullet weight of 465gr was easy enough from testing up and down the bullet weight spectrum but the standard 20/1 lead alloy didn’t shoot well at all. We tried some hardened Cast Performance bullets in testing bullet weights for the sights and it lived their bullet. Turns out what it really loved was the super hard bullet! I cast a LBT 465gr LFNGC bullet from a special super hard alloy and it will shoot groups at 50 yards you can cover with a quarter at 75 yards. The point is if you find the load it likes you leave it be and load lots of them…

I'm thinking, a tree stand gun, for hogs or bear and such. The Speer 325gr SP might bring you more joy than the Hornady HP.. and more available and less pricey too.

Agreed 100%. If you start chasing regulation again, it's a nightmare. Once you find it, build THOSE loads and call it good. The last thing I want to do is have to send it to a double gun pro to re-regulate it. Selling a double with the regulation load is easy. Selling a double gun that isn't regulated...well good luck with that!

The nice thing about knowing a factory load that it's regulated for is that you can "probably" achieve that with a similar weight bullet and velocity...but that's not guaranteed.

Aaron takes great care with the work on the double rifles. He doesn't compromise with regulation, he won't settle for mediocre accuracy and regulation.
He can regulate it for a different load if you ever have the need.
