I bought a new 4 5/8 stainless .357/9mm Flat Top and one of the stainless 4 5/8 Baby Vaquero 22LR/22MAG Single Sixes on a Lipsey's order a few years ago. Both of them were exceptionally tight guns with tight cylinder gaps on both cylinders. I converted the .357 to a Bisley to sell and kept the XR3 grip frame. Turns out it had enough meat on both sides to use on the Baby Vaquero from the same order. Thought it'd be neat to do a Baby Vaquero with the right grip frame, my favorite early grips, and the New Vaquero ejector rod. I finally got around to it and finished up the frame cut in earlier today. My hands are fairly big, and I've never been a fan of the new thin frame especially with thin grips even on the mid frame guns for recoil, but on a single six these black checkered retro style early New Vaquero grips just feel right to me, and I like the look of the XR3 better on the small frame guns than the XR3-RED, especially with the old retro style black grips.

That is just gorgeous, in a kind of clean, simple, and sharp sort of way. Absolutely love it!

Nothing like making a gun fit YOURSELF!
Nice!

That's the way they should be offered from the factory, that looks great!

That does look great! I must be in the minority here, but I always liked the factory black grips, especially on SS guns. Only problem is, on my FT 44 spl, they fit like crap. Gonna have to make myself a set of grips.
I think part of eth reason I like those grips is that my first revolver, a High Standard Double 9 as sold by Sears & Roebuck, had black plastic grips.

Thanks y'all. I've gone in circles on blue and stainless and horn and wood for grips etc. I like a lot of different stuff on revolvers, but I have become a die hard stainless fan over the years for my personal stuff. It's almost impervious to mud and blood and other nastiness that splatters and when it gets scuffed up it's a real simple fix. I fell in love with a revolver Bowen did with this grip frame and grips several years ago, but in a caliber I'd of gone with a Bisley grip on. I finally discovered the small frame was the way to scratch the itch for me

It really looks good and home projects are just rewarding. That outclasses a Wrangler by a wide margin...

I listed it last night. I actually made that one up for me but... The plan was to have Hamilton get the barrel slot welded up and get a dovetail front in it, and weld up the top strap a bit and redo the rear sight notch for my pushin 50 eyes. Well, all was a go on the front end just would of had to wait awhile, but he can't do the back end right now, and may not be able to in the future either. So, like many others I've moved on to make room for others I decided to let it go. I like the sights on stainless Vaqueros when I'm in the shadows, but I have a hard time with them out in the light.
