I've gotten to the point of Longshot being a favorite. I find it quite often matches 2400 with a much smaller charge.
With powder being harder to find and definitely higher priced, it matters.
It is especially good in the "Special" Cases. I look forward to trying it in the Schofield...

ONE MORE COMMENT, FOR THESE LEVEL LOADS WHY BOTHER WITH JACKETED BULLETS? SEEMS LIKE CAST IS THE WAY TO GO. Rey I agree with lead only for standard pressure loads, but at these mid level loads I have gotten good expansion with both the XTP’s and Speer Deep Curl (formerly Gold Dot). While I still shoot my 45’s with lead bullets probably 95% of the time, the jacketed HP’s have their place at these velocities. Dan

I used the data you shared for the 44 special from Brian Pearce.

If I was gonna' guess, it's because some folks don't cast, & some just don't want to figure out the voodoo behind making CB's shoot. Personally, I'm with you. Gotta' have a real specific reason to load jacketed in a handgun. Especially a revolver.

Haven't read the article yet but I agree, Brian Pearce is very through on anything he writes & buying Handloader magazine is worth the cost just for his articles alone. I'm pretty sure I have every single copy from day one of Handloader & for many, many years had all of the issues of Rifle magazine as well. Don't do rifles any more so I stopped buying them a number of years ago but its still an interesting magazine. Glad that I have a good supply of Longshot because I use it in so many different hand guns, it's a very versatile powder, and as mentioned, a little goes a long way.

Longshot, Power Pistol and a few other modern powders really make oldies like the 44 Special sing.
Even with low pressure loads performance is excellent.
I don't change easily, but give credit where credit is due...

I never cease to be amazed at Brian Pearce's efforts to provide useful information. With magazines full of nonsense and advertisements, it's refreshing to have at least one bimonthly publication that hits home. Handloader #337 contains 10 pages of some of the most useful information I've seen to date. This time it's 45 Colt 23k psi data and information. There's some out there, but nothing like this. Best of all, Brian recommends this data for Uberti Revolvers built after 1990. I've argued this for years. But, some are resilient to learning. Even more interesting is he specifically says not to use it in Pietta Revolvers. Good enough for me... Lots of data with old classics like Unique and 2400. But, just as much with modern favorites as Power Pistol, Longshot and Silhouette. If you don't have a copy, get one. Then, use the subscription card... What month and issue is this stopped at Books A Million today to pick up a copy and all they had was Feb issue... Thanks Frank

I'm not sure...
B.P. has it listed in the 45 Colt +P. It sure seems like a slow burner requiring large charges. Also, it's recommended for use with Magnum Primers only.

After noting that Longshot gave excellent results in the trial, I found some today. I loaded several bullets to test. These articles are great.

Happy to see that I'm not out in left field all by myself when it comes to periodicals, especially Handloader. Since I don't know everything, I really enjoy the Brian Pearce articles and usually print them off so I don't have to go looking for them.
The cost of a subscription to Handloader is well justified in my opinion.
