The lug was machined down to the current profile. I just sent the cylinder off to Pinnacle Precision to have it reamed to 10mm Magnum and I ordered a new cylinder that I am going to have Gary Reeder convert to his .401 GNR Ronnie, what cylinder did you buy?

PATTON... not saying it's the same issue, but my, "bought new", 610 came to me with excessive headspace... I bought it with the intention of chambering it to 10mm Magnum... my gunsmith did the measurement, & contacted S&W, they said the gun was unsafe to shoot, & to send it back, issuing a call tag... it ended up going back 4 times, the 4th time with a note from the factory area sales rep, before the actual headspace was addressed... while it took 4 times back to fix, they seemed to play with the trigger each time it went back... I'm assuming they had to install a new cylinder before they could effectively address the head space??? but now I have a 610 with the nicest trigger of any I've handled, & it was finally "safe to shoot" & got chambered in 10mm Magnum
I bought mine like 6-10 years ago... & I'm not sure if a head space issue could cause the cases to stick, but I've not had any issues of sticky cases in mine, with the hotter 10 Mags

I bought it here for $93 with shipping. It is showing sold out now. I got the link from a post on the 10mm forum usagunsandgear.com/products/smith-wesson-revolver-n-frame-model-610-cylinder-10-mm

so I'm interested in a cylinder as well... a couple questions though... if the 610 cylinders are shorter for moon clips, can these be chambered for the GNR cartridge ( assume that is rimmed )
also of concern, if my 610 had to go back to S&W 4 times & likely needed a new cylinder to correct the head space issues... how likely is it, that these surplus cylinders are to being the ones replaced, that had excessive headspace???

Good questions that I do not know the answer to. I asked Gary if it could be done and he said yes

I would think you would need an N frame cylinder from a rimmed cartridge, of likely a smaller bore ( 357 for example ) if the GNR cartridge is rimmed ( I haven't ever checked that )
however, perhaps the cylinder can be bushed at the front, & ratchet work done, to make it it work??? but would seem, then the barrel would also have to get set back as well???
I'm not familiar with all the S&W model numbers, but a quick search, shows they did make an N frame 357... thinking that may be the best cylinder to start with for a rimmed conversion???

I had thought about exploring the 10mm magnum but I just can’t bring myself to do it. I already have a few 41 magnums and with a 10mm in a revolver you are not limited to magazine length OAL. Load those 10mm a little long with some extra powder and see what happens. As long as the bullets aren’t pulling it would be the same as a longer piece of brass. I load my 10mm contender loads long all the time.
I was actually surprised how much bite a full house 10mm load had shot out of a 610.

I bought a 5" Half Lug GP-100 in 10mm with the intention of rechambering to 10mm Magnum.
When it arrived, it was one of the best factory Rugers I've ever owned. Shoots even better, so I couldn't alter it.
Bought the correct TK Moon Clips and it's a game changer. Bullets can be seated long and ballistics improved.
I'd love to get another one and get JRH to build me a 5-Shot 38-40 Cylinder for it. Sadly, they are no more...

The 610 along with a N frame .357 cylinder are on the way to JRH to become a .38-40

"The 610 along with a N frame .357 cylinder are on the way to JRH to become a .38-40"
Is the 357 cylinder fitted to the 610 going to be long enough? The 38-40 is generally the same length as a 45 Colt. If it works, that would be great.
