I personally would prefer a straight, rimmed case from .32 S&W long to .38 special in size and a case I don't have to make. All the speed you want with light bullets, but heavier bullets available also . A cadet Martini or small falling block action or a Contender, between 16 to 20 in threaded barrel [for the option of making it even quieter.] A small red dot or 4x scope would round it out nicely as would a good peep sight. At 69 I can still do peep sights, not so good with opens [sigh]. Last update from Haus of Arms said Feb. on the new Contender frames ,we shall see, but it would be a nice start don't ya think?

I would have preferred that too. The 327 Federal fits nicely and you can shoot 32 Magnum and 32 Long in the same gun.
However, the 30 Reece produced more velocity with less powder than any other cartridge I tried.
I certainly can understand not wanting to make cases. I'm working on the 30 Reece this morning after a three week break from it.
I'll be reporting on it later today or first of next week. I've learned a lot, but still working on a few things.

We're in the same camp, but I made mine a 357. I can always use less powder - which is what I do 99% of the time.
Sending it off to be threaded next week and starting the long wait for the can, starting sometime within the next week, pending last bit of privacy violated.
The can should bring the weight/balance in line with my 30/30.
When/where did you hear "February" from Hause of Arms? I checked again recently and they haven't said anything more in many months. I'm still on the list from way back when and still hoping to add that one to my small selection of Contenders. I haven't bugged Marty, guessing it may be a sore subject by now.
Thanks.

....However, the 30 Reece produced more velocity with less powder than any other cartridge I tried. ....I'm working on the 30 Reece this morning after a three week break from it. .... I like the less powder/fps aspect. It directly works into the frugality requirement, using a case which is relatively common and easy (esiER) to source.
As much as I've dug in my heels on forming cases from here out, I'm not averse to forming 300 BLK at all, and I figure 30 Reece should be no more difficult than 300 BLK - I assume?
Now, if junebug has good intel on those SSK50 frames, I may be stuck with a decision between a 38-55/357W (a daydream project), or a 30/32 cal., maybe 256 W Mag. Rook Rifle. Danged dangerous place to be right now.

My thoughts on the powder/velocity was mostly about noise. Using 7.0 grn Unique in the 30 Reece provided the same velocity as 9.5 grn 2400 did in the 327 Federal.
The smaller charge of fast burning powder just made far less noise.

Happy side benefit of economy is welcome, but there is a wide range of very useful velocities in these powders in the 357 case.
Those two powders are pretty much all I shot in the 300 BLK also - not using it as intended, rather more in the light of the project of your vision.

here is what was posted on face book.
Great news from our friends at SSK Firearms regarding the SSK-50: I think we are finally at a point of confidence where we can comment on this. I have been hesitant to make any commitments for the last two years as I have learned a long time ago that until you have something sitting on the shelf, you better not make a promise. Currently, we have purchased the tooling and have contracted three separate casting companies to make the frame. Two seem to have the capability and we will have First Articles from one in a week and the other the first week of January. I anticipate production in February and shipments by the end of February. It has been a long, painful, and expensive process. We are committed to the project and resolve to do it right.

Scott, I hope that's true. But, we've heard this many, many times...
I've decided to go with the G2 so I'll have the ability to decock and recock without opening the action.
I hope the SSK-50 comes to pass. But, decided not to wait...

This sounds exactly like all the other hopeful announcements of the past. This one is actually recent?
Thanks again.

Now, BOTH versions are defunct, and the general idea behind sticking with the original (for me) is that I have parts if I need parts. Going back to the beginning of the discussion, wherein conserving shooting resources is discussed, being able to get 1k or more rounds per pound of powder, going easy on my brass, having spare parts, etc. should keep me shooting for a long time to come and, with any luck, I'll have a few components still left for my estate sale.
An extra frame won't hurt me none, and just may provide a path to pursue a more "rook-appropriate" rook project of my own.
Sorry. I'm going on about MY version again.

Hey, all versions matter!!!
More times than not I read all available info and go somewhere in the middle.
Agree on econo too. We'd like to think this shortage couldn't be worse, but it easily could be.
You and Scott have added value. Figure both have more to post as projects progress.
