Wow, that fluting is much deeper than I imagined. Should save a ton of weight.

Wow, that fluting is much deeper than I imagined. Should save a ton of weight. Eric That's my hope and why I decided to spend the extra $90 on this barrel. Plus, it does add a cool factor. MGM had a Black Friday Sale to take 10% off everything. Not a huge savings, but better than nothing...

The contender is a great "contender" for the perfect rook rifle. The one I took a deer with this year was wearing a factory full bull 7/30 waters barrel cut back to 20 inches from the factory 23, Stratton custom steel base, VX-2 2-7x33 scope, and rynite stocks, and came in just under 6lbs. It balances between the hands with just enough weight forward to hang steady offhand. Bonus that the carbine and my single seven I was carrying weigh less combined than my model 70 30/06. Planning to add a 327 federal barrel, also at 20", as I've had very good luck loading the 327 from mild to wild in the single seven bisley. I've been using the 120gr rim rock Keith bullet from around 900-1400 and it just plain shoots. With a bit of fiddling I've gotten the powder puff to same point of impact at 25yd as the hot stuff. As for the .311 bore while there's not the plethora of bullets that there is in the .308 diameter, there are 120ish grain jacketed bullets made for the 7.62x39 that would be interesting to try to give the 327 a better pill for close range deer. Will need to try them out and see if they can be pushed fast enough to expand on lung shots. If not I dont see one walking away from one placed at the butt of the ear with traditional 32 pistol bullets. would share your rim rock 125gr keith bullet loads especially your lower speed loads thanks

Rimrock keith bullet loads Subsonic:
4.5gr Unique
Full power: 6.2 power pistol 10.5 AA#9
I pulled the data from a couple of Brian Pierce articles and believe these were below his max. The unique load is a darling. I prefer the AA#9 load over the power pistol as it's recoil is more a push than a snap. These are safe in my gun but always work up. In my bisley the aa#9 and unique loads group together within my ability to hold at 25. Further out the unique load drops off quickly but makes a good bunny and squirrel thumper up close.

You'll be stunned at how much velocity that carbine provides. Even with the really fast burning powder loads.

i dont think 3gr is a max load and i dont want to stick a bullet so like you said this is backwards thinking instead of working up a load it would be a good place to start working down a load.

Thanks Tim...
The 30 Reece has been discussed quite a bit. It's simply the 357 Magnum case necked down to 30 Caliber and trimmed to 1.165". Has a long neck ideal for cast bullets.
The 321 GNR is similar in some ways. It's the 357 Magnum necked down to 30 Caliber, but remains full length.
The shorter neck is good for coated cast and jacketed bullets. I carried the dummy round in the picture in my pocket for a week working around my place. The bullet held tight with no issues.
It shoots the 165 grn about the same velocity as the 30 Reece does the 135s.
But, it's strong point is jacketed bullets. It's every bit the equivalent of the 300 Blackout, but has the user friendly rim.
Time and testing will determine this cartridge's future. I have both a 12" Pistol and 20" Carbine Barrels in it.

Been lustfully looking at that one but agree with the seller on 327 being iffy in a 410. The few makers of inserts I've seen don't offer it smaller than 20ga.

Plus, we have no idea of the quality of work. I question why anyone would go to that much effort and then sell it.

Also that, in my humble opinion, begins to wade into the world of double guns and drillings. Juuuuust outside rook territory and playing in its own field. Very cool though.

Yeah, definitely a combination gun. But, would make a good thread of it's own.
I can't even get onboard with a Repeater as a Rook Rifle. That's just me though.
Most of the Original Rook Rifles were very plain. The ones that make it to books are usually very elaborate.
