Who built this .500 max? Looks like BCA's bolt block but cylinder and barrel aren't marked so I think not. JRH?

That's not JRH's typical 're-marking' font. His are usually engraved and your example is electro-chemically etched. If you can see the chamber side of the cylinder, is the last digits of the serial number stamped between cylinders? Also if JRH did the grip panels, his initials are marked on the frame side. Intrigued as well.

Some of JRH's early builds didn't have the script. No markings at all on the cylinder faces...

I'm going to guess it's multiple smiths. The gun, especially front sight/band look like a Linebaugh to me but the basepin and bolt block screw look like Bowens work. Bowen used to refer to the 500 linebaugh as the 500 magnum as well.

Bowen usually marks the caliber on the barrel...

Bowen usually marks the caliber on the barrel... As does John Linebaugh. Gallagher built a .500 Max for a mutual friend. I'll see if he can get pics next week. You might ask Alan...?

Bowen usually marks the caliber on the barrel... Sure he does, but nothing about that gun is usual . Bowen is the only one I can think of off hand that uses the screw to retain the bolt block. I suppose it could be a one off by an unknown smith.

Bushy I can look at my Gallagher Maximum as well but it’ll be next week as I’m at hunting camp.
I know it doesn’t have the screwed block, but the caliber marking may shed some light

Also interesting is the recessed case heads on the cylinder. Linebaugh never did that and Bowen didn't do it on his early 500s

Memory is a terrible thing, while I’m not home to verify, I looked at some glamour shots I had of my Gallagher and one of them definitely looks like the block is “screwed” in place. But doesn’t show a caliber marking in the normal place, so I’ll inspect it once I get home.

Here's how Gallagher marked my 500L. It also did not have his Makers Mark on the top strap until I sent it back to him for a few things.

It is an early Huntington.500 Maximum Identified by him. Built in Lancaster, Ca in early 1990's. His early guns were not monikered because the guns were built in a gunsmith shop by just Jack Huntington and wasn't JRH just yet. Cylinder steel should be 4340.
The re-mark engraving was done via cnc pantagragh. He is curious where it surfaced.

Hmmm….now we have a mystery compounded.
Snyd’s gun is marked exactly like mine yet Mr. Dog says Jack claims it.
My $ is that it’s a Gallagher but that screw for the cylinder bolt block….
