About 5 years ago I found a 4.2” SP-101 327 in an LGS and knew I had to have it. I had read about the cartridge and thought I wanted one but never really pursued it. I bought that gun and loaded many rounds for it. When it came down to it, though, I didn’t like the fiber optic front sight for real precision work and I found the 327 quite finicky to load for, I could not get that gun to shoot H110 or Accurate #9, it only liked 2400. The SP-101 is also a bit small for my hands for a regular everyday shooter.
One day something better came along and down the road it went. At the time I think the 4.2” was the only gun they offered in 327. A few years after that they re-released the fixed sight 3” SP-101 and I thought to myself that’s what I wanted out of the first gun. Lower profile, shorter barrel, so I bought one of those. Well when you buy a fixed sight gun you’re stuck with the sights and you need to tune your loads accordingly. I had a lot of fun shooting hunter pistol silhouettes with the 4.2” gun but the 3” just wasn’t up to the job. I should have kept it but when I needed a little extra money when I got married it was first on the chopping block. I do regret that now that they aren’t making them anymore.
That leads us to today. For almost 2 years now I’ve had 500 or so new 327 brass, hundreds of 32 cal bullets, cast and jacketed, dies, more primers than I could shoot in 5 years, and all different kinds of magnum pistol powders. I would have to say that as we speak, in the current situation, Ruger is not making any new 327 caliber revolvers besides the LCR. That’s why when I saw one at an LGS that I haven’t been to since before covid started I was quite surprised. More surprising was it’s a blued lipsey’s 5” half lug. I’d almost have to bet it was a pre covid gun and it’s been sitting ever since (serial number confirmed 2020)
Now actually I saw this gun in person about 2 weeks ago but I for some reason couldn’t remember the price, I remember seeing it, thinking that’s uncommon and remembering how many people on this board liked this gun. 2 weeks it spent in my mind, if it was still there today it was meant to be.
Anyways I bought it today with a little help from a trade. They certainly are more money than they used to be but a quick check on GB shows bids on one that way overshoot what I paid. Here’s a quick pic, I don’t have anywhere nice to take good pics of guns right now.
