"......Smith 58 41 Magnum. Controllable, comfortable, elegant, deadly. (4 inch by the way). Cant believe some people are asking north of 2K for these guns."
Goes to show you it's one of the great ones and there are a few too many fellas know that. I want a 58 REAL bad….

You fellas are killing me with those "aged," "yellowed"grips! I'm trying to decide between what Tim has on his (white) or cheating and going for something like this that's already aged.
The photos I sent Tim (above) are the best I could find, but from before it was complete. I traded off the steel grip frame and bought the aluminum one from previous posts. The grips shown are olive-wood from Carey Chapman and since they didn't fit the new grip frame, they went to a dear friend who was at the time much less financially fortunate. We've switched places since and now the shoe's on the other foot! He got out of public service and I got into it.
Also missing on the pictured version of my "Workin' Man's 44" is that wonderful ejector rod I got from Tim. All my "upgrades" on this gun were on a truly Workin' man" budget level, to include the ejector rod. I wouldn't MIND having a custom from Andy Horvath (for example), but a fella can have something which truly fits his needs, a little at a time, with some very doable and affordable tweaks.
All very lovely guns here! It's interesting to see the subtle differences that make one work for a specific user and provides ideas others (like myself) might not have considered in achieving one's own tastes and preferences.

Sorry it's a DA but it is a 44 Mag and the most carried and accurate one I own. An L frame Smith 44 Mag is really a neat workin man's gun. It rides in Barranti leather. Old photo lock is gone.

I bought a new flat top 44 special several years ago, put a SBH hammer on it, fitted a set of sixshot’s holly grips. Easy to carry and hit with.

I'll probably be harassed for this one...
Primarily a Single Actions Guy. Own more 44 Special SAs than any other caliber. Customs from Reeder and Clements, FA-97, etc.
But, my most accurate one is a used Taurus 441 I bought used from a pawn shop. It will make one ragged hole at 25 yards with most ammo. I take care of all my guns, but this is one I carry with few concerns. If I miss, I know it's me...

This one is the single action that goes when the 41 Special needs a rest. This one is a plain Jane vanilla model 58 that rides in a Hank Sloan skin in the compartment of the truck.

Those were great guns, and Taurus, I think, was making much nicer and more sensible stuff then too. I had a few of those and let them go. They were easy to come by because no one wanted the 44 Special and everyone thought Taurus was junk. There are just enough guys who know better about their early five-shot 44 Specials that you just don't see them for sale that much.
I had a 6" stainless with adjustable sights and a 3" blued with fixed sights. They were very nicely made, a very convenient size and accurate.

My Workhorse: 7-1/2" SBH. Sighted in for long(ish) range work. Shooting mild 10.0 gr Unique under 240 gr WFN HC.
That used to be my go-to load. I've moved on to an equivilent Power pistol load these days but still does the job!

I own a lot of 44s but since this thread is in the single action forum I’ll give credit where it’s due. This is one gun I’m extremely happy with here. I could definitely see it being perfect for a working mans gun, mild recoil and could hit anything it aims at. My load of choice for it right now is a RCBS 250gr Keith, powdercoated, over 7 grains of unique. I was shocked at how well this load shot when other loads within the book 44 special range didn’t do so well.

I don't hot rod it much, when I cut the barrel down, I decided to just reuse the original front sight...AND, since it's so low, 95% of the time it gets a Lyman 429215 over 8.5 grs Unique in Magnum brass... Someday, when I get the time...& Motivation, I plan on making a new taller front sight before sending it out for a refinishing.
