I just checked my cost tabulator for this project. The only work I didn't do was soldering the front sight. All fitting of the grip frame, installation of parts and action job I did. In addition to the price of the base gun it took 1100.00 to complete this gun. Well within budget. I am still thinking about some really nice grips like sheep horn or? It is easily one of the most accurate revolvers I have ever shot. This one is going to get used a lot.

I just added a pic with Fermin's sight. Can't wait to chase critters with it.

I figured I would pull this one back up since there seems to be some interest in the project.

I figured I would pull this one back up since there seems to be some interest in the project. Really nice project. You mentioned sheephorn, which I find beautiful. Musk ox horn is probably my favorite, but I don’t own either. Currently out of my expendable cash price range, but maybe one day.

Stabilized sheep horn is super durable. One of the members here (lscg) is a master with sheep horn. I originally budgeted 2K for this project and I am still slightly under that. Putting a little more with it to have sheep horn is a definite consideration.

I think that would really bring that whole project full circle as a home run! How do you like the mirrored front sight? I’ve never seen one in person let alone used one. I have a 4 5/8” NM 41 Mag I may start slowly customizing. It’s 100% stock now. I can’t go crazy, but an action job, some sights and maybe one of the custom frames. I can play around making different grips then, and if I hit upon a perfect fit ask the family for custom sheep/musk ox as a special gift. We will see. You all have given me an itch I haven’t head in 40 years of shooting - a somewhat customized revolver.

I haven't got to play with it much to give a good evaluation of the mirror sight. So busy right now guns are having to set on the back burner. I hope in about 2 weeks to get it back out and shoot it some. This last round of covid messed my eyes up. I am going to get them checked next week. Hopefully new glasses will fix the problem. Trying to shoot with open sights at the moment is useless. I can see the target or the sights but trying to focus on both is a train wreck. I shot my son's Linebaugh Big 45 a few days ago at 25 yards. 2 shots were about 10" apart. That is with a very accurate revolver. My advise is to start with a plan for the gun. What are you going to do with it? How do you take the stock gun and achieve your goals. Put everything needed in a column and work your budget from there. I have nearly completed a detailed article for sixgunner (HHI's online magazine) that details the whole project from though process to completed gun that I hope will be worth reading.
