Today I took a little time to shoot my new BFR Bisley in 500 linebaugh. I'm not a fan of the Ruger Bisley grip. But the BFR version is a whole new ballgame. Whitworth always said it was the best factory option for controlling big recoil. He's exactly right. The 44 mag level 350gr felt like a 357, and the heaviest loads were easily controlled. Much better than the Ruger, in my opinion. Still looks funny, but with the way it handles big kicks I guess I will get used to it.

MY FAVORITE SINGLE ACTION GRIP FRAME IS THE RUGER BISLEY BUT, FOR ME, ITS GOT ITS LIMITS. FOR TOP END 500 JRH LOADS I GO WITH AN 8 INCH BFR BISLEY RATHER THAN A BEAUTIFUL JRH 5 1/2 INCH "NIMROD" RUGER BISLEY IN 500 JRH. IT MAY BE A GOOFY LOOKING GRIP FRAME BUT THE BFR BISLEY REALLY DOES WORK FOR ME.

Still prefer the Ruger Bisley. For lookin' or for shootin'? For shooting for me. A little file and rasp work. But not much. Shot all of Linebaugh’s calibers with it.

I shot a friend's BFR in .500 Linebaugh. The grip works, but feels odds in my hand (how it points). And I'm not big on its looks. Don't know why they call it a Bisley. It isn't. The rear profile doesn't extend up over the ear screws. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

For me the FA 83 is still the best combination of looks + feel when shooting. I know not everyone feels that way just like not everyone seems to like the Ruger Bisley as good as it is.

Still prefer the Ruger Bisley. For lookin' or for shootin'? Both. Don't know why they call it a Bisley. It isn't. The rear profile doesn't extend up over the ear screws. I agree. It has nothing in common with either the Colt or Ruger Bisley. It's really just a Super Blackhawk reshaped into a banana.

It's ugly! To me, the BFR "Bisley" looks like something Yosemite Sam would be packing in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Haven't shot a BFR with that grip & likely won't. I'll stick with my FA 83's & Ruger Bisley's for my big bore thumpers...That being said, to each his own.

I totally agree with it looking funny, but the same 525gr at 1250fps will leave you with a bloody knuckle with the Ruger Bisley, will make you think you need to run to the ER from the Seville, wrenches your wrist from the Redhawk, won't fit in a 83, tries to bury the hammer spur in your hand in the standard plow handle grip. Out of the banana gun, it was easier than 300gr 44mag in the 629

I have five BFRs and they're very accurate. Solidly built too. Mine have taken thousands of rounds of the heavy stuff without a hiccup. My only complaint surrounds their look....which in my opinion has gone backwards since the JT BRFs came out. Example - the new hammer, the banana grip, the front sight, etc. Three improvements which would go a long way: 1) Adopt a backstrap closer to the Huntington reshape (which works. I have one on my .50 Alaskan BFR). 2) Ditch the pyramid looking front sight and go with a 2Dogs or a similar post 3) Mate the front edge of the backstrap so you don't have to extend the grip panel into the frame to cover the gap Something like this .500 JRH: This may sound nit picky, but I've heard dozens on the forum suggest the same. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

..different size hands require different size grips?
my own bfr in 475 linebaugh has been to dave clements for mount/fit of jim stroh front sight and jack huntington who took the drawings of my hand, welded up and fit some pretty nice wood for my "jrh grip mod."
while he was at it, jack fit the ruger bisley hammer and it now wears a bowen rough country out back.
the changes made all the difference, especially when pushing 440s over piles of h110/296!

I sent mine back for a Bisley conversion and a wide spur hammer last year from the original configuration of the rubber plow-handle grip. I can say that it has made a tremendous difference in being able to handle the recoil, as well as being much more enjoyable to shoot long term. I feel much more comfortable at top end loads now than I did in the past.
