agree completely... it takes an exceptional 4" square of material to make great grips... that "nice board" may not have enough concentrated figure to make exceptional knife or handgun grips & honestly while I started this thread, I much prefer fancy wood than leather... as mentioned above, I've seen snake skin grips before... but they never excited me enough to get my wallet out... & even on a good cow or bull hide, I'd question the durability in comparison to a basic wood set... I've now bought the equipment to stabilize wood, & am just starting to play with it... hoping I can find a way to keep as much of the holographic effect, after stabilization...also expect that the properly stabilized wood, would even be more durable as a grip or knife scale than the untreated wood... & durability is something I look for even in my fancy guns
