What type of grips are you shooters using on the Redhawk? Uncle Mikes. Great if you can find them and if you are ok with finger grooves. Saves my thumb joint even with 355gr at 1350fps out this 4" 454'd Redhawk.

I LIKED THE LARGE NON-FINGER GROOVED PACYMAYR GRIPS, BUT HAVE REPLACED THEM WITH ROSEWOOD EAGLE TARGET GRIPS, BETTER LOOKING AND, FOR ME, JUST AS FUNCTIONAL. DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE THAT LIKES REGULAR RUGER GRIPS FOR HOT LOADS IN A REDHAWK, BUT IF THERE ARE I DO NOT RECALL ANY ONE OF THEM SPEAKING UP.

Can a Ruger Redhawk in .45 colt handle heavy hunting loads made for Blackhawks. ***** Longhunter1750.... StrengthWhen Bill Ruger set out to make a double action .44 Magnum, he had the S&W M-29 as a baseline. Blowup-wise, the Model 29 is plenty strong for old-time .44 Mag loads. In other words, the M-29 cylinder takes the loads. Over the long haul. however, the M-29 frame does not. It is a feature of these double action designs that stop notches occur farther rearward on the double action, farther forward on a single action. And it is no accident the Redhawk cylinder is thicker, with offset stop notches. Elimination of a sideplate on Ruger double actions further strengthens the frame over sideplate guns. RecoilRecoil of the Redhawk with 7-1/2” barrel did not bother this shooter. The Redhawk grip frame copies S&W N-frame----with recoil hump jacked about 3/8” higher. Ruger’s introduction of 5-1/2” barrel ended my honeymoon. Loads which didn’t bother in the 7-1/2” now stung like fury. Whereas .44 Special purred like a kitten, full tilt magnums hurt. Pachmayr came to the rescue with an over-size Presentation. And later on, a thin Gripper with widely spaced finger grooves. Both Pachmayr grips made the 5-1/2” shootable, although the Gripper’s outsize finger grooves promoted vertical stringing from my hand. Shaving off the finger grooves allowed my fingers to snug, which ended stringing. David Bradshaw

DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE THAT LIKES REGULAR RUGER GRIPS FOR HOT LOADS IN A REDHAWK, BUT IF THERE ARE I DO NOT RECALL ANY ONE OF THEM SPEAKING UP. I recall seeing pictures in Mr. Taffin’s books of Ashley Emmerson and his 500L Redhawk. It had the factory stocks. That is one gun I think I would refuse to try. I have the Uncle Mike’s on all of mine. I tried several different sets/brands on my guns and settled on the cheapest of the lot. I hear they are a bit hard to find now. Glad you like the Eagles Rey Dan

Glad you like the Eagles Rey Dan Ashley isn't exactly squeamish about recoil, has shot buckets of 310gr @ 1100fps 44mag ammo in S&W329 and gobs of 330gr maxed out loads in his Redhawks. We were shooting his big Marlin on day and he asked if I wanted to try his 500 Alaskan Marlin? I started to say sure as a headache was starting up in earnest, I asked what is load was, "oh its not bad 525gr bullet at 1950fps" I think I recall. I had the good sense to pass on it that day...
