Ronnie Wells Grip Frame, brass Bradshaw Bisley nearly finished, pre-polish. I say nearly, as I worked on it all day yesterday and considerable the day before. My tools are primitive: 8x24” belt sander, files, Dremel tool with little sanding drum, crocus cloth, emery paper. And, of course, eye protection and respirator. A vertical belt sander and big polishing wheel would be handy, but I’ll get there.
The Bradshaw Bisley is Ruger’s Bisley pushed back 3/16”. Ronnie had to modify spring seating for clearance but lock time and hammer fall seam fine. Fit of the 5 screws through the Ronnie Wells grip frame is precise. Living with it I’ll have much more to report
Ronnie Wells brass grip frame: Bradshaw Bisley model approaches final fitting on Ruger 03. Excellent match of RW mount holes to Ruger’s precise placement of the 5 holes in frame greatly eases frequent attach & detach as metal is removed to mate handle-to-revolver.
Ruger 03, RW Bradshaw Bisley
Ronnie Wells brass Bradshaw Bisley grip frame. Considerable metal removed from upper backstrap to continue arc from the HAMMER HUMP of Ruger frame. The blending can be done when the Ruger frame was factory contoured for Bisley grip frame. Downturn of hammer hump on standard Blackhawk or SBH would require metal removal from frame to homogenize arc of frame-to-grip frame. This challenge vexed Bill Ruger, as he wanted the frame to accept plow handle and Bisley on the same arc.
Ronnie personalized the Bradshaw Bisley to David.
Precise hole alignment, placement & contour of cuts----hammer & trigger operate without slop and minimal opportunity for gradou to enter.
Brass Bisley trigger guard, contoured with sanding drum on Dremel rotary grinder. Whether electric or air powered, a small high speed grinder with sanding drum brings a finish which factories nowadays generally neglect. too slow a speed invites chatter. Brass cuts much faster than steel, a mistake can run deep. Fingers & crocus cloth or emery paper come next.
Ruger Grip Panel Dowel # KXR01400, fits snug, is not meant to shift or fall out; must be pressed or driven into frame. A drop of oil on hole & pin eases insertion.
Ronnie Wells brass Bradshaw Bisley grip frame next to factory Ruger 03. The Bradshaw Bisley is a stretch Ruger Bisley----3/16”-----to keep middle finger clear of trigger guard under recoil. Retains Ruger mainspring & trigger spring.
