FWIW the issue with attempting to tune the action with spring kits is poor ignition. APEX says this hammer will help. We shall see.

Hmmmmmm, weaker springs and a heaver hammer sounds like a questionable strategy to me . Lock time will not be your friend.

Let us know how it works out. I'd have thought a lighter hammer (mo speed) would have been the correct formula too. Interesting.

Well............My solutioun too light actions for fast double action shooting K-Frame rimfires has always and still is wide target hammer for mass and smooth trigger face. Use stone to polish insides (Carefully on your MIM'ed parts) and do not go to far with the mainspring. I still shoot revolvers against semi-auto's in Steel Challenge once in a while. Is that hammer made of tungsten?

So... We all know who Apex is and who their market is right?
Brownell's says: The Apex Mass Driver Hammer improves ignition of .22LR ammunition by increasing the mass behind the hammer's impact surface, allowing for a lighter double action trigger pull than the factory's stock hammer. The Apex Mass Driver Hammer, with sear, stirrup, and spring, replaces Smith & Wesson factory MIM components to ensure consistent performance. Improves ignition of .22LR ammunition Allows for reduced hammer fall weight and trigger pull weight Converts revolver to Double Action Only (DAO), lacks a hammer spur for cocking. Works in current production S&W Model 617(-4 and later) L-Frame .22 rimfire revolvers only.

Here is what Apex says: www.apextactical.com/22-mass-driver-hammer-kitThe Apex Mass Driver Hammer is designed to lower both the hammer fall weight and the trigger pull weight for competition and recreational use. The hammer replaces MIM components found in Smith & Wesson Model 617 revolvers (–4 and later). When properly installed, this hammer kit will: -Allows for reduced hammer fall weight and trigger pull weight -Converts your revolver to Double Action Only (DAO) -Lacks a hammer spur for cocking to single action

If you've fiddled with one of these beasts you know how difficult they can be....

I have that gun, bought it about two years ago. Hahaha, I think I tuned mine, cant remember. It would be fun to compare the two side by side. Mine still runs the factory hammer.

Not being knowledgeable on the S&W lock work, does it still have the single action sear? I assume the external lock function is still in place, is that what the groove on the left side is for?
These questions may be a little premature, with your frustrations.
