WAS CHECKING MY INVENTORY OF PRIMERS AND I HAVE MAYBE 2,000 WLP PRIMERS. I DON't TRUST "AC/DC" PRIMERS THAT ARE ALLEGEDLY FOR BOTH MAGNUM AND STANDARD LOADS FOR MY MAGNUM LOADS. NOW THAT I HAVE STARTED TO USE UNIQUE AGAIN FOR S&W 45 COLT LOADS I WAS WONDERING IF THE WLP's WORK OK WITH UNIQUE OR ARE TOO HOT FOR UNIQUE. I HAVE BEEN USING FEDERAL 150's FOR MY UNIQUE LOADS BUT PREFER TO "HOARD" THEM FOR AWHILE IF POSSIBLE. SO, DO WLP PRIMERS WORK OK WITH UNIQUE IN 45 COLT LOADS? I USUALLY LOAD 9 - 10 grs WITH 250 - 260gr BULLETS.

I have run WLP with unique on my 45acp loads and my shot loads on calibers that take LP primers, no issues. Your load listed is what I load for my fiancé but with 240-230gr bullets, no problems. Trapr

Rey, the WLP is my most used primer in the 45 when using Unique & has been for a long time. A 250-260 gr bullet with 9 grs has been a favorite for over 45 years. I also use them in the 44 specials with 5.5 grs of W231 with excellent results. And one last time, I use them in the 41 magnum with 8 grs of Unique with either a 217 gr HP or a 230 gr solid, always getting great groups, either on paper or performance on game.

As for igniting fast powder, or Unique medium powder, with a mag primer, I wouldn’t hesitate. If a primer takes you over the top there is something wrong with your loading practice. With component shortages, or a personal supply low, it becomes a case of “use what you got to get what you want.” Python ace and IHMSA All-American Jerry Moran uses mag primers for everything, and he’s loaded mountains of PPC-type loads, as well as magnum. I get more concerned with under-ignition then slight “over-ignition.” Go to the tFiring Line and see what the target says. David Bradshaw

They will work perfectly.
Many of my guns have hammer mounted firing pins vs internal frame mounted pins, and what I've found to be critical in basically all loads to prevent occasional risk of primer flow tying up the actions on guns like those is to use a primer like the Winchesters. The cup metal in a Winchester primer is a good bit harder than what Remington uses, or even Federal, and you see the difference right away in hammer mounted FP revolvers.
I've found winchester small pistol primers to be the same. Ignition is always good, no differences over the chorograph, and no measurable difference I can see in accuracy either. Might venture to say I see even better groups with winchesters. Unique, Bullseye, 2400, they're good under any by my opinion.
I keep other brands on hand, but Winchesters by-far my preferred and trusted primer for revolvers.

A bit of a rabbit trail here fellas but what bullet are you all using on that 45 loaded with unique? Have a Smith mountain gun that I’m really enjoying and would like to settle on a good load for it...... can’t believe I passed on one for all these years as it carries nicely!!!!

I use win large pistol primers for 10mm and 2400 44 mag loads. I really like them a lot. Never had one issue with them not being hot enough or too hard.

MY HOMETOWN IS 150,000 PLUS BUT THE ONLY LGS IS AN ACADEMY STORE. WENT BY TODAY, THE AMMO SHELVES WERE DAMN NEAR EMPTY AND THERE WERE NOT A LOT OF PRIMERS LEFT. THEY HAD ABOUT 10 100 PRIMER BOXES OF WLP PRIMERS AND I BOUGHT 5 OF THEM, ANOTHER 500 PRIMERS FOR THE INVENTORY.
THANKS TO ALL FOR THE WLP POSTS, GOING TO LOAD UP SOME S&W 45 COLT LOADS WITH WLP's THIS WEEK.

I also have a S&W 45 Mountain Gun & if I'm shooting 45 ACP's in it I use WLP primers, Unique powder & a 205 HP bullet that's powder coated. If I switch to 45 Colt in the same gun I still use WLP primer, Unique powder & a 250 gr Keith bullet. In my other 45's Unique is still the powder of choice along with those same WLP primers but many different bullets get the call from 217 gr HP's up to 280 gr Keith's. It's only when I need to go faster & heavier that I switch powders, almost always 2400 but sometimes H110. Primers stay the same until I hit the H110 button then I go with CCI magnum primers.
Unique was the very first powder I ever bought way back in 1966, it would probably be the last powder to go if I had to choose just one. I have a lot of it & I don't see that changing.

IT WAS VERY ACCURATE BEFORE FERMIN "2 DOGS" GARZA OPENED UP/UNIFORMED/POLISHED THE THROATS @ .453, AND STILL IS VERY ACCURATE. OTHER THAN THE THROAT THERAPY (AND PRETTIER GRIPS) IT IS STOCK. IT SHOOTS THE OTBC 255gr SWC OVER 9.0grs OF UNIQUE, STARLINE NICKEL CASES AND FED 150 PRIMERS, VERY, VERY WELL. I CARRY IT AFIELD OFTEN.

It's been awhile since I've seen an article on primers. Would like to see primers listed in order like powder burn rate charts.

One of my favorite combinations...that said if shooting S&W DA revolvers I do get an occasional failure to fire when shooting double action...never when fired single action. Zero issues with Federal LP primers...
