Unfinished panel and frame headed to Bradshaw for fit and testing. ***** Ronnie’s upgrade of the Bison Hunter with finger grooves. I think this will be an improvement over my Butchered Bison (better get some pictures to Lee). Shooting throw water jugs this afternoon with the Butchered Bison on the Ruger 03, thinking I call Ronnie this evening, to try put some flare on the butt----to counterpoint the little finger in the finger groove. Unbeknownst to me, Ronnie had already built a Bison Finger Groove with flared butt. While butt flare balances the heft of a long or heavy barrel, it may reduce lateral dispersion. To be sugared off on the Firing Line.
Up until now we’ve mostly adapted hand-to-grip frame. Ronnie’s grip frames now adapt grip frame to hand. Working against history... except this small detail: Sam Colt set in motion a real nuts & bolts repeating handgun----with a grip designed more for shooting than as a club which happened to be a pistol. We’re approaching two centuries since Colt’s Pattern revolver, a little upgrade shouldn’t hurt. David Bradshaw

Thanks! Am getting a Blued SBH that from the looks of the pictures someone converted to Bisley. The sad part is I think they used a Stainless gripframe and rolled every edge. The good part I am getting it cheap and it must be saved or it’s going down the road! Did ya get it yet? Well I got it and it looks like a great example of “ This is how not to fit a gripframe!”. It’s amazing how hard they must have worked to get that much Stainless steel buffed off. The rest of the gun is in great shape! So the next step is take the range and shoot it and see if it accurate. If it’s ok have to decide just what new gripframe to order!

OK...So, I got "The Package" from Ronnie a month ago. The #5 Grip frame is definitely going on my 5 1/2" Ruger Flattop .45 Colt. That plan is my pedestrian pursuit of the ergonomics of Keith's #5 for point-ability and recoil. But, Ronnie included one of his K-Bird frames in the box as well (awesome). We talked a couple of times over the phone and Ronnie suggested I fit the KBird frame to the Flattop as well. His suggestion was prompted after seeing the Bird's Head grip on my Ruger Blackhawk .357. You know, change the grip frame when you get that "wild hair" for a change. But then... one of the guys on this forum opined about not seeing very many posts concerning long barreled custom sixguns. That got me to thinking...I don't care much for the Ruger Bisley grip frame. My hands just can't keep a consistent grip on it. So, maybe, the KBird might work for me. I like the Bird's Head grip on my .357. What the hay? I can try it out on my Ruger Bisley 7 1/2"er.
My quandary is...so to speak. Too exotic? Should I add another project to the bench? I've got to keep one of 'em in service so, which one first?

Gunny, What is your 7 1/2 chambered in, as I myself like certain birdshead grip(not the factory Ruger) and have been dreaming about hunting down a used 41 mag 4 5/8’s and putting the kbird on it. Knowing how Ronnie is pretty generous with trigger guard/knuckle room I do not doubt it would be much more shootable then the factory xr3/xr3red aluminum grip frame.

UncleZeb, The Bisley (soon to be a K-Birdsley?) is chambered in 45 Colt.
Back in '99 I fitted up a Blackhawk 357 Mag (4 5'8" barrel) with a brass Qualite birdshead grip. A real sweet shooter that I'll keep shooting till trails end. But, if I too were to find a modestly priced 41 Mag, well...you got the right idea.
