Got my .500 Linebaugh SRH from Jack Huntington last week. The fluting wasn't my idea but despite the "Buck Rodgers" look, has grown on me completely. It has taken considerable weight out of the gun (the idea was to make it as small and light as possible to carry as back-up but with the option of using it as a primary hunting tool), and I can honestly say that the recoil with my 525 grain loads is brutal -- and I love it! It's an SRH that started life as a .454 Casull (I've had it since about 2000 or 2001 an have taken some game with it), but has been offered as a sacrifice to the big-bore gods. It features a 5-shot cylinder and a 5-inch fluted barrel. The butter-smooth SA trigger breaks at a crisp 2-lbs 6-oz, and Hogue Tamers do their level best at taming. I haven't put it on a scale yet, but it seems to be noticably lighter than my 6-inch Model 29........ :shocker: My .475 SRH offers no maiden's caress in the recoil department, but this one exceeds it quite handily -- and DA revolvers come straight back. So, it lets you know every time you touch it off. I am playing with front sight post heights now to dial it in. I intend to blood it soon......will keep you posted.

Given how untraditional looking a SRH is to begin with I think the fluted barrel looks darn slick. Nice thumper.

Tell us a little more about your Huntington 475 SRH. Is it a 5 shot custom cylinder conversion using an original 480 barrel? I think I'd like a 475 done like that... It would look good with my 44/454/480/500 SRH Set... Was he pretty quick?

I don't recall Jack taking more than 6-months to build it. It's my go-to hunting handgun. call him at (530)268-6877. You will find his pricing very reasonable and his work second to none. I encourage you to call him.

I'm curious when you say considerable reduction in weight just how much from the barrel fluting?

I'm curious when you say considerable reduction in weight just how much from the barrel fluting? A combination of procedures make it light. The fluting was probably only responsible for a few ounces alone, but the barrel was turned down to a fairly small diameter and it only measures 5-inches in length. Also, though the cylinder is only a five shot, it has five really big holes.
