Does anyone know of a fixed rear sight like those in this link for Blackhawks with "ears?" I emailed the proprietor, Dave Lauck but he wasn't interested. www.dlsports.com/dl-ruger-flat-top-revolver-sight.htmlLooking for something rugged and minimalistic. Might be a chore to zero but no more than the flattops this sight fits now.

Have you considered a Ruger Vaquero or New Vaquero? Fixed sights, rugged, original Vaquero on larger frame, New Vaquero on smaller frame.

The sights on a Vaquero is not easy for me to see. That looks like a good alternative. I would like to have that sight on a GP-100.

I think the problem lies in the ears. I believe they tend to be different from gun to gun and would make a universal fit difficult at best.

Frank, Joe, thanks for the suggestions. Have considered a Vaquero but prefer Ruger's Old Model action. I've got a couple well-used but functional shorty 41s that would be perfect for one of these. Bowen does a fabulous Single Six style, drift adjustable rear sight. I shudder to think of the cost and time.

A good machinist could build you a sight like you want. It would just have to be a custom fitted part, but I would think it could easily be done. All it would take is money.
And yes that is a fine example of Bowen’s work.

Have you checked with Fermin Garza, he does some great work with sights on Rugers. He is a member here!

Fermin PM'd. Thanks Joe and 44guru. Maybe Fermin is that machinist!

If the cross pin placement allows it, file the ears off the Blackhawk and install one of these

You want me to take a file to one of my kids, kings6!? Interesting idea, and the cross pin does seem low enough. Have to think about that one.

It has been gone quite often. If not comfortable with the file check with a machine shop to mill the top ears off then any number of guys can reblue for you.

That site has the rounded front like the flat tops have though. I’m afraid simply filing the top strap flat would not work because you still have the gap upfront from the squared off front of the rear sight versus the rounded front of the flat top rear sight.

Spoke to Fermin today. He covered fixed rear Blackhawk "Monolithic" sights in a June 2018 thread (with pics!): singleactions.proboards.com/thread/22995/hair-raising-alleys-dark-trailsAs Joe mentioned above, Fermin says there’s inconsistency in Ruger’s rear sight channel. So a drop in sight might have a sloppy fit. Ruger’s factory sight tends to float loosely in the channel, negatively affecting accuracy. Also, to be rock solid, he believes the sight would need two screws. If anyone's interested in a sight like this, contact Fermin with your needs. He was very generous with his time and expertise.

Or get a Bowen Rough Country. It was designed as an adjustable fixed sight and then lock it where you need it. It’s a pretty tough sight that gives a great sight picture and is for all intents and purposes, a fixed sight once you lock it down.
