Thanks Art, it was nice talking with you. I will be getting back with you shortly.
As Art explained, the Ruger rear sight mortise varies widely dimensionally. We have to decide if we want one that fits all, or one that requires fitting. More, I personally feel any such unit should be secured with 2 larger screws rather than the single factory screw. I consult with some forum members that actively field my wares. One such is our JoeS who just happened to shoot his compact red dot sight right off his Ruger sixgun. This pretty much validated my original opinion that one screw would not be adequate.
Fundamentally, a fixed rear sight must survive being dropped on the concrete and still be on your sixgun with you when you stop tumbling down that mountain.
None of the above should be considered applicable to our 70ish year old Navy Seal, Dick Sixshot Thompson. I reserve him for “acid” testing my sights. Evidently we now have to build a sight that can survive slogging in neck deep mud.
JoeS, thanks for your input.
Last, it’s not that I don’t have updates for you guys, it’s finding time to post them. If you send me a PM it’s easier for me if you tack on your phone number. A lot of this is easier to share verbally rather that by pecking on my IPhone.
