Has anyone ever built a #5 on a Single Six Frame? Would be a pretty near 32 Magnum... John Powers did a 327 on a Single Six. Turning it into a No5 required much fabrication, welding, and blacksmithing.

I much prefer the Bisley Gripframe over any other. With the right grip panels it's very attractive to boot. The #5 is popular because EK wrote about it. Never found it comfortable to shoot. Everybody's hand and taste are different. Look forward to this project progressing... I have explored the No5 to some degree. I can tell you this: The No5 grip frame is at its limit with a 250 at 1250 or so. IF you intend to shoot bigger loads stay with the Bisley grip frame. If you have hands larger than medium stay with the Bisley grip frame. The No5 will be too small for you.

Groo here Remember Keith was in a fire as a child and damaged his hand... Also he has hands on the smaller side. TheNo #5 looks nice but most are better served with a Ruger grip...

Ive always considered my hands to be on the small side. Cosmetically speaking the no.5 doesnt strike my fancy despite the classic era.....but Id like and hope to hold and feel a No.5 frame someday.

The shiny one in the middle on the left side needs to move to Oregon!

Those aren’t my #5s but let’s see how close we can come at figuring them out then Fermin can come along and correct our erroneous guesses. Top left I would guess would be one made by David Clements, maybe in 44 Special. Middle left 44 Special build by Alan Harton and gun has been left in the white fir the possibility of future engraving while the bottom on the left looks like Gary Reeders interpretation of the #5. Not sure if it is 44 Special or maybe 44 mag. Two guns on the right look like TLA Improved #5?guns in 45 Colt and probably 44 mag. Only the TLA guns and the Harton gun are full blown renderings with the #5 base pin latch and the Harton gun has the closest version of the original #5 style front sight.
Fermin will be along soon to slap me back into place and fill in the actual facts versus my made up version!😄

Those aren’t my #5s but let’s see how close we can come at figuring them out then Fermin can come along and correct our erroneous guesses. Top left I would guess would be one made by David Clements, maybe in 44 Special. YOU ARE CORRECT. THAT WAS MY FIRST NO5 AND WAS REALLY ACCURATE. Middle left 44 Special build by Alan Harton and gun has been left in the white fir the possibility of future engraving IT'S ACTUALLY STAINLESS AND STILL HAS NOT BEEN ENGRAVED BUT IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE IT WAS PRETTY MUCH BUILT FROM SCRATCH BY HARTON while the bottom on the left looks like Gary Reeders interpretation of the #5.REEDERS GUN HAD A TRANSFER BAR AND AN EXTENDED GRIP FRAME AND WAS A 44 SPECIAL Not sure if it is 44 Special or maybe 44 mag. Two guns on the right look like TLA Improved #5?guns in 45 Colt and probably 44 mag. TOP TLA IS A 45 COLT AND THE BOTTOM ONE IS A 44 MAG WITH EXTENDED STOCKS AS WITH HEAVY LOADS IT WAS HARD TO CONTROL WITH THE ORIGINAL GRIP FRAME. Only the TLA guns and the Harton gun are full blown renderings with the #5 base pin latch and the Harton gun has the closest version of the original #5 style front sight. THE HARTON FRONT SIGHT IS ADJUSTABLE FOR ELEVATION LIKE THE ORIGINAL. Fermin will be along soon to slap me back into place and fill in the actual facts versus my made up version!😄 TAKE A LOOK AT POWERS METAL WORKS AS HE HAS SEVERAL NO5 SIXGUNS UNDER CONSTRUCTION TO INCLUDE FLATTOPPING THE MAIN FRAMES AND MAKING THE ORIGINAL STYLE SIGHTS. www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=powers%20metal%20works%2C%20llc&epa=SEARCH_BOX

There Robb goes studdering again. 😂
The Harton gun is a neat one for sure, I always figured Fermin would send it to me for safe keeping but he never has. Not sure if I should keep holding my breath.
John Powers would probably get the nod from me if I chose to recreate a #5 these days. His work that I’ve seen is excellent!

You gotta make alot of decisions. Old Model or New, Mid frame or full size, etc etc etc....

Whatever you decide to do, don’t skimp. Go for it. You won’t miss the money later. As soon as I can hand deliver this one to Tyler Gun Works the engraving will be completed. But I’m gonna have a few words with that engraver first! Every one who has seen, shot and handled this one agrees it’s amazing and among the best ever built. gunblast.com/Harton-No5.htm

I much prefer the Bisley Gripframe over any other. With the right grip panels it's very attractive to boot. The #5 is popular because EK wrote about it. Never found it comfortable to shoot. Everybody's hand and taste are different. Look forward to this project progressing... Agree. The "holy grail" of grip frames possibly more for historical reasons than anything else. Suggest starting with a 45 Colt Flattop and tweaking The Ruger grip frame in a Huntington/FA style for best shootability.

My hands are medium to smallish and the Ruger Bisley just seems a little too big for me. The Colt SAA/XR3 work very much better for me than the XR3-RED, as well. I’ve shot a lot of “Ruger Only” 45 Colt 325 LBT loads from Bisley’s over the years, and the Bisley is THE frame for such work, but with my smaller hands I’ve always thought that there is a better grip shape for me waiting to be invented. I’m wondering if RDW’s WELLS #9 or his #5 with with the extra knuckle clearance is my Holy Grail grip shape? I hope he turns some out in steel, as well as aluminum.
