While I've been intrigued with Elmer Keith's No.5 revolver, the closest version available on the market is Lispsey's Ruger in 44 Special.
As I'd much rather have one in 45 Colt, my alternative is to have one built up. Rebarreling the Lispsey is an alternative, but doesn't seem cost effective.
I’ve been considering working with the following:
Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt – blued, Flattop version. I've been told the Bisley would be an option, but then you need to mill the top of the receiver down for a flattop.
Either the Power Custom No.5 grip frame or the stock Ruger Bisley grip frame, which would need to be blued (yes, stainless can be done). The PC No.5 frame is accurate, but I've also been told the Bisley grip is very close to the original.
Bisley hammer and trigger (stainless, found on eBay)
Keith No.5 base pin (not the latch however)
Bowen Rough Country rear sight
Not sure about the front sight ... Keith had an sight adjustable for elevation.
Blued finish, nitre blued screws
Grips – bone/elk or rosewood
Comments, thoughts, ideas are welcome!

Seems like a great project. Dave Clements is the man for a job like that.
I've considered the same project. Rechambering a 44 Special and installing a match grade barrel. Dave also makes the gold bar EK Style front sight.
But, I'm more into small bores these days. Hope you complete your project and share progress/results with us.

It depends on some details and what you're after here. You need to decide on this.
The revolver Mike posted the link of above is indeed a really nice one if the #5 look is what you're after and you already KNOW Jack will build it.
In regard to what you posted...If you want a bisley grip frame get a blue one. Yes I know you can "blue" stainless but good luck on getting it to match the rest of the gun. If you want a No 5 grip frame Powers is the easiest and most cost effective way to go.
Up to you but the blue bisley hammers can be had and depending on whether or not you wanted it case colored or not you might want to think about that.
The Bowen rear is what is on all my guns but so help me on the traditional conversions I swear the original Ruger sights look so much more tidy and neat.
I said this in a post recently and I'll say it again. None of the Smiths will do EVERYTHING you may want done.
They have jigs made up etc to do certain things and that's how they can afford to feed their families. Case in point is finding anybody other than Bobby T to blue and or case color your stainless hammer/grip frame. You also mentioned the Keith Style front. We all know Jack does a great one but I'm not just so sure you'll talk anybody else into it. You can always try but.....They're backed here to doomsday and spending a day on doing a front sight just isn't in the cards.
For me, I've been deciding who I want the build and starting there...say a Bowen .44 special built on an OM flat top .357 frame. I put together the list of options HE offers and have a Bowen gun built. Same with David Clements or Jack Huntington or whoever, almost always using options that particular smith offers. Looking at guns posted on this website can tell you a lot.
Although...from my observations Jack is often willing to do more a la carte stuff than many.
Not trying to be a Debbie Downer but these are some of the things I've learned work and some that won't. I learned the hard way by spending lots of $$ trying to figure it out on my own. You don't have to.

In my opinion the grip frames appear similar visually however they feel very different in hand to me. The Bisley is longer and definitely heavier where as the #5 is more compact? and certainly lighter. That said, I do really like both. My Bisley has Persinger grips as well which are perfectly shaped for my hand. I recently posted my #5 that was linked here, unfortunately I don't have a picture with them side-by-side. Building a #5 will be substantially more of a financial commitment.

I much prefer the Bisley Gripframe over any other.
With the right grip panels it's very attractive to boot. The #5 is popular because EK wrote about it. Never found it comfortable to shoot. Everybody's hand and taste are different.
Look forward to this project progressing...

Has anyone ever built a #5 on a Single Six Frame? Would be a pretty near 32 Magnum...
