I'll start by saying pictures will be added.
I've come by a batch of Colt New Frontier Barrels. All are of the 3rd Generation.
This is important because Colt 3rd Generation Barrels have the same threads as the Ruger Blackhawk.
Now, I'm not the first to do this. John Taffin was very helpful with his vast knowledge of Single Action Revolvers. He has already blazed this trail.
So, I decided to build a series of Colt-Ruger Hybrid Revolvers with Gary Reader's Shop.
Knowing the Ruger Midframe Flattops are closer in size, all will be on this frame.
The first arrived today. It's based on a Ruger Flattop Bisley 44 Special and is a simple conversion.
The new Colt Barrel was installed to replace the factory one. Barrel gap was set at a tight .001". The action was polished creep free, Wolf Springs were used throughout the gun, right down to an extra power base pin latch spring.
All writing was removed from the left side of the frame. Obviously, the serial number was untouched. The barrel came marked by manufacturer, address and caliber. That's the four things required to make the gun 100% legal and safe.
So, we have an extremely strong Ruger Action mated with a sleek, sexy Colt New Frontier Barrel with the distinct New Frontier Front Sight.
Groups have been exceptional and I'll post more about them as I work up favorite loads.

I appreciate that!!!
Tonight I'll install the Simulated Ivory Grips.
I should note to the gunsmith in all of us. The Colt Barrels are .030" smaller in diameter than the Ruger Barrels. That gives .015" less on the radius to mount the ERH. So, we started with a 5" ERH and cut it down. This way the round that inserts into the frame could be cut .015 off center. Problem solved...

Nice! Now it is necessary to get the frame color case hardened to complete the project.

I probably won't do that on this one. But, you certainly could if that's the way anyone wanted one finished.

Want to think everyone for their positive comments. Not many posts on here, but lots of messages and questions.
I spent time at the bench yesterday. The base gun used was already mine, so knowing the cylinder throats were .431" helped. The barrel slugged an even .429".
Groups at 25 yards were remarkable. All under 1.3" and several 1". But, at 75 yards I was stringing horizontally. The narrow New Frontier front sight is very detrimental. This combined with a .140" rear sight notch wasn't working.
I measured the front sight width at .127". So, I ordered a .125" notch rear sight blade. With my experience level, (I'm old) my eyes aren't what they used to be.

Getting the thread back on track - I picked up a New Frontier barrel in 45 Colt years ago. Always thought it would look nice on a Blackhawk. Encore64 - your gun turned out nice! Tim
