been using a lot of nice looking Maple lately. thought i'd share a few pics.
this set belongs to a forum member.
here's a before pic,
and after.
this set is on the way to Australia.
and I just got these slabs in from my supplier. I think I see some S&W grips in there once they're dried and stabilized.

It's hard to get maple with figure tight enough to pop on gun grips, but burl and spalted maple really do look nice. Lots of that wood (especially the burled stuff) is light and porous unlike the rest of the tree that gives hard maple, so stabilization is pretty mandatory.
Zane, those look awesome and I don't just mean the fancy wood. Any hack can use nice wood, but you've got the fit, contours, and finish down.

The grips at the top of the page are mine. The fit and finish are fantastic. I could not be happier with the way they turned out. Thanks again Zane Jess B.

Maple is the primary wood around here and I'd not have guessed you could make it look like that ! Makes me wonder, have a friend passing on some black locust to me, mostly for camp/barrel firewood. To cook on.

I think the spalted maple grips are my favorite wood grips. With a nice walnut a close second. Are they durable? Anything beyond reasonable care needed to keep them looking their best?
