For all of you guys who have a BFR but do not like the factory aluminum front sight and want to replace it with a steel one here is the sign up list for a group buy.

The existing 2 dogs front Single Six design is not going to adapt to the BFR for a couple of reasons. The biggest problem however is re cutting the barrel contour on the existing sight lowers the overall height of the sight to .540" or a bit less. When we first introduced our sight, the BFR was not being produced in 500 JRH and we now know that the 500 JRH is going to require a taller blade. So I am going to have to start over from a block of steel. In the meantime I am sending out a couple existing (short) test units to a couple guys. I will update you as to their feedback.

I have been in contact with a one of the guys who has a 500 JRH and I am going to get this new run set up with a blade high enough to support these larger bores. So far what I have is the 500 JRH sight is .644" tall and the barrel is .825" diameter. I need to know what you guys with the bigger bores have. I am going to need you guys to post this link around as the base of the BFR guys who were on another forum seem to have abandoned that website. PM or call me if you need to know more.

I will get a unit price here shortly.

A) 2 Dogs Custom Steel BFR sight blanks 49 US Dollars Each IF WE GET TO 35 THE UNIT PRICE WILL BE 42 PER SIGHT AT 50 WE CAN DO 35 PER SIGHT

B) Serrations included in base price

C) BFR blanks cut to custom height and blued add 7.50

D) The BFR screw may have to be modified. We changed the height of the body so the taller blade will not be out of proportion and this might keep us from having to change the screw. We also opened the head of the screw hole a bit to accomodate the factory screw.

E) Thinning the blade: I can thin the blade to .115", .110" or 100" or to order. I have trimmed them all the way down to .085". For one sight add 12.00 US, a second will be 10.00 US more, and a 3rd will be 8.00 more, so 3 sights will be 30.00 US dollars. After 3 they will 8 per sight.

F) Overall height will be .670". This is taller than the factory 500 JRH unit.

G) These will come serrated standard

H) Please add 3.50 for shipping.

Fermin, I can send you the extra sight I have for my 500 JRH BFR. It's MR's fiber optic but it's the same height as their non-fiber sights.

Don't think I've ever even opened the package from when I got it; so I would guess/assume it would be in there with the new sight. I'll get it sent out to you in the coming days to the same address that you gave for the payments.

As promised Fermin, this is what I'm going to be sending down to you:





The next two are from the owners manual for the measurements of the sights that come from the factory, my BFR has a 5.5" barrel and has the extra high sight on it, you'll see when you receive it. 





And this is the outside diameter of my BFR barrel in 500 JRH.

Ok, one of the BFR guys just sent me a message and he is measuring his front sight at .134 wide!!

That most certainly is not standard, if you guys would take a quick measurement of yours and post them I would appreciate it.

Put me down for atleast 3 depending on the price...
Here's mine, it's a 5 1/4" with Octagon barrel from the custom shop.
It has the extra high fiber optic sight on it.
From the top of the barrel to the top of the sight is .600" and it is .125" wide.
It started life as a 50AE and got sent back.

So your blade is .134" wide? That is a pretty odd number.... I wonder how BFR arrived at that....

OK, I have to ask a couple more questions. Is your front sight FLAT on the bottom?

How wide is your front sight base? I ask because it looks like it is wider that the flat it is sitting on. Is the custom shop octagon part of your barrel a straight or tapered octagon?

Is this your only custom shop BFR or do you have others that I will need to consider when I spec out these blanks?

Another thing I need you BFR guys to consider is this:

Look at the photos of the gap between the rear sight base and the main frame on lar4570's first photo. That's a pretty big gap. I personally would like my rear sight to sit quite a bit lower to not only protect it but to have the mortise more fully support the tenon of the sight. On these big kickers the more that thing slaps up and down the more likely you are going to have it fly off....

Plus, you might not really need a front sight that is quite so tall. I have sent some test units out that are about .540" tall and we will know something before too long.

I remeasured the front sight blade and it is .125". I didn't notice but there was a bur on the right side and the first time I measured across the the top of the sight and just didn't notice it.
The octagon is .765" straight.
The area under the ejector rod housing and the top of the barrel were left round.
That is my only one from the custom shop. I do have the 45/454/410, 45-70, 475, 500JRH, and 500S&W.
