Just remembered, I do have a black rifle. Rem 700 308 with Pride Fowler Rapid Reticule 3X9x40 Leupold scope, First three shots at 100 yards after bore sighting.

Tom, I like your choice in rifles. I really like that copperhead pattern on the M1A. How do you like that overmolded rubber stock on your bolt gun. I like the one on my FN PBR. It's the one on page one of this thread. Bill

Bill, I like the overmold stock and most all features of this rifle. The bolt has been lapped and polished and is smooth as butter. I put a Jewel trigger in this rifle and left it as it was received. Thirteen oz. sure makes this rifle a bench or stand gun. I can't even get my eyes closed and flinch before the bullet has left the muzzle.
With the Prider Fower and a range finder all you have to do is range and shoot out to 800 yards. Almost forgot about the windage.

My youngest likes our "black" Armalite AR-10. Although, we favor the green furniture. Accurate, powerful, and has been absolutely reliable. The virtual absence of recoil allows for those 110 pounders like him to shoot flinch-free. Note that smug smile of self-satisfaction after setting loose a few downrange. And yes....he ought to have been wearing his shatter-proofs, at least for the pictures.

If that kid grows to his hands and feet he will be a hoss. Keep his shooting.

My black rifle looks like a Copper Head. That is a really cool paint job! I really like my FAL. It was kinda fun to shoot 3 gun matches with the 308. Other guys would dink the steel plates, but the 308 knocked the plates flying. I ended up giving that rifle to my dad as a atv rifle.

Tom, that is the advantage of a Rem 700 action, you can have a really good after market trigger. I've got the factory trigger on my FN down to 24 oz. and I got this target as a result. I'm real pleased with this rifle. Bill

Bill, My last range target look almost exactly like the one you shot. Same bullet weight except using Reloader 15. It is good out to about 500 yards before the low right zero really comes into play. The Pride Fowler Rapid Reticule scope is a dandy for range, then point and shoot.

flyfisher66048 Yep, I took my FAL to a 3-gun match one time. The bonus time targets were 5 pepper poppers at 300 yards. They had the poppers set to fall with a solid center hit 223(that's what everyone else was using but me a my boss at the gun shop). When the 223 hit the poppers, they would clang and slowly fall over. When my boss and I hit them, they made a very loud bong and slammed to the deck. There were several guy that didn't know if they had hit the poppers with the 223's and they sent a second round down range while the popper was falling from the first hit. No such trouble with the 308. You touched off a round and the target just disappeared. Bill

Tom, have you tried the Nosler J4's? I like them better than Matchkings.
I haven't tried reloader 15. I use reloader 22 in my 30-06 and get 3/4" groups at 100 yards consistently. Bill

How about a Springfield Armory M1A SOCOM? 16" barrel. M-14 mags are easier to come by than the altered mags for the AR-10. It is even legal in CA so you wouldn't have trouble going through anti assault weapon states. I wouldn't want the SOCOM II with all the rails. I like the more conventional stock of the first SOCOM.

I agree. I hate that stock on the SOCOM2. My buddy has one and it like hugging a porkypine. Bill
