Love the Rigby, but I could better afford to keep that Ugartchea well fed!
I have had an opportunity three times now to buy 12ga doubles meant for slugs (all smoothbores) and once came perilously close to buying a Holland & Holland underlever hammer 12ga double rifle. The H&H was superbly immaculate, cost 8 grand, and even had an original left hand stock.
I have regretted each passed opportunity. I should have sold my car..........

The Rigby was purchased about 10 years ago and refurbished in England by Rigby. It has been shot but otherwise resides in the safe. If it could speak I am sure its seen some interesting hunts in the hands of its previous owners.
I need to get my wife to scan some of our old photos and slides so I can post them. I have had a number of doubles. I hunted for about 18 years with a 475 # 2 Jeffrey which I sold some years back. The Jeffery was probably in India at the beginning of its career. I took several elephants, hippos and well over 50 buff with it.
I at one time owned a 577 Westley Richards White Hunter that was owned by a poacher and I had some documentation provided by W.R. a photo of the poacher a Rhodesian posing with the gun and ivory from 5 elephants. I will try and scan and post the rifle and ivory photo.
I also passed on an opportunity to buy one of Elmers doubles a W.R. single trigger box lock 470, one of my many mistakes.

Len I really like the Rigby. If you have more pictures please post them. I have always loved double rifles even though I will never own one. I dream of gonig to africa someday.
Someday I hope to have a double in a smaller caliber that I could use for deer etc. one of the 7mm or 8mm's maybe.

I have been looking for some of my old double photos so far I have not been able to locate the ones I wanted to scan. I am attaching a photo that goes with a Westley Richards 577 I used to own. About 24 years ago I was walking around the Safari Club International show it had not yet opened to the public so after setting up my booth I visited some of my favorite displays. George Caswell was setting up Champlain's display and I found this 577 W.R. leaning up against the table with what I thought was a bargain price $15,000.00 and the gun was close to 100%. It was not in my budget at the time as I was in the process of moving into our new home. I grabbed a friend of mine who was assisting me and insisted he buy the gun, it did not take a lot to convince him. The rifle was a post war White Hunter model boxlock .577 as I said it looked perfect. It had initials engraved on the bottom of the action D.M.C.C. My buddy took the rifle to Westley Richards booth they immediately tried to buy it. After he made it clear he was not selling they asked that he come back after a bit as they had something for him pertaining the his rifle. When he returned they presented him with the original photo that I have attached and explained to him the gun belonged to Dennis M. Casteel Casteel a poacher from Rhodesia. He was so impressed with the photo he ordered a $2,500.00 oak and leather case for the 577. A couple of years later I acquired the rifle and unfortunately sold it after owning it a few years. I did try and do some research on its original owner he was from Keroi Rhodesia now Zimbabwe. He was a fireman and a known poacher apparently applying his trade in adjacent Mozambique. Somewhere I have some very clear photos of the rifle which I will post when found.

I should have appreciated the 80s more at the time. From here they look fantastic, and I don't know what I was thinking then.
