Thank you for the complement Mr. 2 Dogs...and you are quite welcome. The .38 Super is unfortunately one of the least appreciated cartridges in the history of gun making...all because Colt/Browning kept the original headspace on the case rim chamber of the Colt 1903 when the put the round in the 1911. If the Super had been headspaced on the case mouth like the .45 ACP it would never had gained the well deserved reputation as the most inaccurate cartridge/handgun combinations ever made... The Super is also an excellent revolver round. I have an original S&W PC 686-7 that is a great shooter. It inspired me to have a 649 rechambered to Super and extra cylinders made up for a 3" 66-2 and 3" 60-10. This is a FAR better snubbie round than the .38 Special. But it is gaining in popularity...now many major manufacturers have .38 Supers.... Bob Dang it Bob, you are getting me “Super” wound up down here!

This has me wondering if my NM Ruger Flat Top 9 mm cylinder could be reworked into .38 Super? I haven't checked any dimensions.

If memory serves Ken, the 9mm is too wide at the base.

....just depends... The way TK Custom cut my chambers in the three revolvers they will run either Super or 9x19. There are also some 1911s that will run Super, 9x23 and 9mm...the 9mm however is headspaced on the extractor and may not give reliable ignition or extraction. It just depends on how the chamber is cut. A tight Super chamber, like the current Colt 1911s will not even chamber a slightly bulged Super case let alone a 9x23 round. It is "possible" that a Ruger 9mm cylinder could be rechambered for .38 Super but hot loads would badly expand the web area of the brass. Better to just deepen the chamber with a 9x23 Winchester reamer and use 9x23 Winchester brass or Starline 9x23 Super Comp brass... www.starlinebrass.com/brass-cases/9x23-Comp-Brass/ But more than likely Super rounds would fire in the chamber as they both have about the same headspace length... Thinking about it...one would be better off rechanbering a standard .357 Magnum cylinder.

Everybody should own at least one 1911 in .38super, mine was made in 2011 and has the rollmark "100 Years of Service" on the slide.

...so what is everyone using for carry ammo?
Love the CorBon 115 JHPs but sometimes they can be an iffy feeder... Started using the CorBon PowR'Ball about 10 years ago and they run 1530 from the Commander. Recently picked up some Underwood Xtreme Defenders that run 1560 from the Commander...and mix the two in the magazine with the first two up being the Defenders... Both shoot to the same POA..

There used to be a wonderful site dedicated to just .38 Super but for whatever reason the guy who established the site let it lapse and the domain name is now up for sale... Really sad as it had the chronograped velocities of almost all .38 Super rounds made. What is the link? A snapshot may be available on The Wayback Machine.

Been enjoying this thread as I am getting a Super back from my gunsmith this week for polishing and than getting it blued. Always wanted one, so this has been fun. Caspian frame, Sig barrel, RI slide and Wilson parts. Going to look like one from the 20s.
