Isn't it amazing how the cylinder chamber throat diameter can be so critical to revolver accuracy and yet be so poorly addressed by manufacturers.

Yup... It is painfully obvious at times that they are making guns with absoluting no concept of what makes them shoot good. ;D

I just bought a new Blackhawk in 45. I thought Ruger had started boring cylinder throats a little bigger, but not on this one. I can't push a .452 cast bullet through.
I guess another one to Cylindersmith.com is in order......

It was short lived. I know someone that bought a recently built 45 Colt. As before, they mic'd between 0.448 and 0.450". -Lee www.singleactions.com

This is something I find hard to truly understand. EVERYBODY should know, by now, the necessity for correct dimensions of the cylinder throats and it is NOT hard to achieve. As the "rockers" say, "What's wid dat?"
No excuse whatsoever.

I like my rugers, but they have shot themselves in the foot time after time. It's like they think they know what we want/need better than we do.

I find that a little weird, mine measures 452 exactly (at least according to my plug gauges) and I know it's never been worked as Ibought it brand new.

Service is a foreign concept to them... Custom is lace and frills... then get upset when we buy something else. Like Winchester since '83 with the AE thing... I ain't bought a Ruger since they put the idiot notice on.

IIRC I've seen Ruger .45's run from .447" to .457"
I think the worst I've seen was a Ruger .44-40 with .423" throats. The fact that it had a .430" barrel didn't mater because the original owner was never able to load it because he couldn't get any rounds to chamber.
I swear the .30 Carbine I had was .305", and I swear it was done on purpose to aid headspace.

You would think that someone some day would get a clue don't ya. It just can't be that hard to do the job right the first time.

Ruger has no monopoly on throat dia. issues in .45 Colt. At least small can be fixed. I've got a S&W Model 25-5 with throats that measure a full .459
