Thanks for the compliments...I appreciate it. Sorry if I sounded that I took it that way, as I really did not. Honestly, kind of aggravated with myself for not being a little better informed about it than I was. I have gone to the website and looked at it...and it clearly states that it is carbon steel. But, as I said...I was wanting the barrel length more than anything else. And, since getting it and shooting it, I am really tickled with it. Matter of fact, it went hunting with my son and me this morning...he has 2 of his own...we really like them. Wasn't trying to find fault... it's an awesome gun none the less. .. actually looks much more polished than the classic pictured on their website

Just picked up my first CA Bulldog two days ago. Wanted one for years and finally got one. I got the 2.5" Stainless. Thought about the Blued Classic and if the gun shop had one I probably would have gone that route, but the SS has some benefits for my intended use. My wife and I have taken up kayaking and one never knows when an un-scheduled swim may be in order. This light weight gun rides perfectly in the pocket of my life vest.
I had always heard about the recoil, but WOW! Shot a few of my normal special loads...and headed home to come up with something lighter. All of the 200 gr. bullets I tried shot way low, and rather than filing the sight I wanted to shoot heavier slugs. I think I have settled on Titegroup powder and my 250 Keith and Matt's 250 HP's.
So far I'm happy with it, but still may look for that 3" blued version just because I like the classic look. jimluke I really like yours.

Here are Steve's pics. Not sure if he wanted both of these posted, but what the hay... I was in a choir concert at the high school watching my daughter perform. Man, she's growing up. Anyway... here we go! .

These guns are unique in several ways. The one that fascinates me is many consider them "taboo" due to their economy class standing.
Had a couple messages before, shaming me for having one.
Fact is, it is by my side far more often than any of my customs or FA guns.
They may not be collector grade guns or deserve framing photos of. But, not much better for my needs than my Target Bulldog model loaded with Matts Wadcutters.

Agree... I have a couple guns that are perfect for everyday carry, but are too nice, too expensive, etc. for me to carry everyday... if the 396 were still made, & cheaply available, I'd carry one everyday, but IMO, that's a prime example, of becoming worth more that the price the "tool" should cost... I actually like shooting it ( I think the previous owner found the recoil too unpleasant ) but it suits me just fine... but I'm really hard on my carry guns, I work in a really dusty environment, & on the weekends I physically work around the farm, often carrying things too heavy, where I'm trying to snag it on my belt for support... anyway, I'm way too hard on a gun to "regularly" carry a 396... & while I think the Charter Bulldog Classic is an awesome looking gun, I'm thinking a regular bead blasted stainless 2.5" Charter Bulldog would be a very functional & practical gun for my belt... the gun on my belt the last year for the most part has been a discontinued S&W 431 PD ( 32 H&R Magnum J Frame ) that was my 1st concealed carry gun, & I bought it new, & it was already discontinued at that point... if it was nice, it would fall into that "don't carry it, gun class" but before I knew any better, I wanted to carry it after 1st getting my permit, & the only holster I could find locally was a nylon Uncle Mikes, with no restraining strap, & that gun fell out of the holster & skittered across the parking lot several times ( to my horror ) when getting out of my taller 4 X 4 truck... being a "painted" aluminum gun, it suffered gouging & paint loss each time it fell out ( 2-3 ) times... I was so dismayed that it sat in the closet in shame for close to 10 years... but after I started seeing holster wear, & carry damage on my other guns I carried over that 10 years, I decided I should start carrying it again... now I'm wishing to go back to a bigger bore, & the Bulldog mentioned above is high on my list... I'm also thinking about the 45 ACP Pitbull

for all you Bulldog fans... this one should be on your radar... www.gunbroker.com/item/710835084In hind sight, I shouldn't have posted this link, & just bought it, as it's perfect for me... but it's not in my immediate budget, so I'll have to let it go... timing is everything

I'm also thinking about the 45 ACP Pitbull I have a 431PD that I pocket carry in a DeSantis Nemesis holster. I have the Superfly for 2 different Glocks and prefer them because they are "stickier" and cling to your pocket material better. I previously worked in an office where carrying per the county/state-issued concealed handgun license could get me fired for cause. In 9 years no one had a clue I carried, and I worked around some very knowledgeable gun owners. People don't normally look below your waist, hehehe, although I have caught women doing that.... TMI. The 431 is almost always a backup gun to a Glock. There is something to be said for a revolver that's a solid performer. No one questions a guy walking with a hand in his pocket, either, so the draw can be really fast and unexpected. Not sure how pocket carry would work with a big bore CA 44 Spl, though... although Bula/Steve plops his in a vest or jacket pocket IIRC. I have the Stainless 3" Ruger GP100 in 44 Spl, but it's a heavier gun that the Bulldog and it's more of a belt gun.

Yup, the 3" SS is in it's usual place right now. My fleece vest pocket. It gets dropped into the back pocket on Carhart shorts,etc.. The 1st pic from Westline Penn., about a month ago. The 2nd pic, came to me from a source with a sense of humor and the puter skills, but I thought it was real. Figured the deer was injured by a car and the bear took advantage of the deer having a really bad day. I'll ask him. JimLuke, my Bulldog goes back to early '80's somewhere. I've worked up more loads for this little cannon than any other handgun here, oddly. It is not a high mileage gun, and don't push the limits or your Bulldog will have a short life. I've had fun with, and acceptable accuracy from a wide range of bullets from a 185grDEWC to Matt's 250gr HP to 255gr WFN and 270gr LFN. It likes bullets with longer bearing surface. If you want a JHP, the 200gr XTP is what I've settled on. If you can fly the search function on this site, you'll find a few thread and posts here on the Bulldog. My fault..

I agree...not a range gun, mine have all been carried much more than they have been shot. I shoot mine fairly regularly, but it is normally limited to one cylinder full. And, actually, it is a challenge for me to not shoot them a lot as they shoot so well for me. I read where people talk about the recoil, but I don't find them to be bad with any load that I shoot in them. To be honest, I don't have a lot of faith in hollow point bullets, jacketed or cast, at low handgun velocities. I have done a lot of my own testing and I have never found them to consistently perform. Now, this is just me...not saying that others have not had better results. So, I stick to solid bullets...I am confident in their performing consistently. With that said...I do not dwell on over penetration for the majority of my use for these guns...woods or downtown. If I am carrying these downtown, I am content with my full wadcutter that drops at 215grs, loaded to 850fps. It shoots a just a touch low...but presents no problem up close. These will penetrate in a straight line and there are no bones in a BG's body that will present a challenge for them. One day, I will get around to tweaking the alloy to help them expand a little...just hadn't had a chance in the last 30yrs. Also, the beauty of these little guns is that you don't have to push the loads to get good results.
