I spent a little time yesterday in the wood shop making loading blocks. With a sawmill and a well equipped wood shop, I don't lack for lumber. I didn't have any blocks big enough for the 500 LB so I dug around in the scraps and came up with some Alaska birch and made a few. They'll work for the 500 LB, 480, 348 Winchester and I suppose could even be pressed into service for the small bores; 44 mag, 45 Colt. I still need to sand them and round over the edge and hit them with some finish. I make them with 55 holes so I always have a row to move the cases to as I'm completing a step; sizing, priming, belling. The block in the back had a small knot that I had to epoxy before I drill it. Waiting for the epoxy to cure.

Those look great. Function is the key though you have them well thought out.

Love the gun. Thought it was a great deal and was tempted but I don't enjoy the big boomers anymore. Was out the other day with my 5" FA 500 JRH shooting 400gr w/15.0gr HS6 (about 1,050 fps) and after 17 rnds, I'd had enough.
Enjoy!

I like the 400's at about 850-900 fps (480 here; no 50's at my home yet...)

Paul Paul,I am with you 15/20 rounds of 500 Linebaugh with Hs6 or H110 an I am down sizing fast...But with Trail Boss an a 450 grain bullet now we can stand 40/50 over an hours time...fwiw

Man, that's a heck of a good sized bag of brass. Did all that come with the 500 you just bought? Nice loading blocks!

...after 17 rnds, I'd had enough. ...15/20 rounds of 500 Linebaugh with Hs6 or H110 an I am down sizing fast.. That's what makes them so cost effective to own! Low ammo consumption! I always joked my 500 had the greatest stopping power of any gun I owned. 20-30 rounds and I had to stop.

Man, that's a heck of a good sized bag of brass. Did all that come with the 500 you just bought? Nice loading blocks! No. I ordered 500 rounds of brass from Starline. It came with 50 rounds of Hornady. And a box of 91 CP 435 grain WFNGC bullets. Coincidentally there were nine pieces of brass with spent primers. The previous owner said it was fired less than 20 times. I'm guessing 11 less.
