Until you ask, I didn't know there was a 5, had to go read about it. Some changes worth looking at if you're a fan. I might like it, but will wait to learn more.

We have a half dozen coming into the shop, both 19s and 17s. I'm curious to wring out a 19.
I've never understood why Gaston was so insistent on those darn finger grooves. The grip was always a bit 2x4ish, but once the grooves were added it always felt clumsy to me.

Being a late comer to Glocks and only familiar with the Gen 3 and 4, I have a question. If they're going back to a 2 pin, fingergroove-less frame how is the new frame different from the Gen 1 and 2? Is it the frame texturing?

I really like the finger grooves . even if my fingers are a bit too thick for them . They still give me a better purchase on the guns handle. But, like with all gun handles, the grip is Totally up to the person holding the gun. Like with the Ruger Bisley vs the standard Blackhawk. I love the Bisley grip. Don't like the Blackhawk. As long as Gen 3 and Gen 4s are available I'll be good to go.

A local gun shop i frequent had a big Glock event yesterday morning. I was in town, but couldnt get away to go. They had two to rent and 18 to sell.
Been considering Sig 320 and CZ 10C as potential replacements for a couple old gen 2 glock 19s; but probably give the new 19 a close look.

Is it the frame texturing? The 5 has the gripping surface & interchangeable backstraps like the 4, & as noted, no finger grooves. I watched a very informative video yesterday about it, but no way I can link it, I'm just to computer dumb. James Reeves, TFB TV. OK, I just googled TFBTV youtube, & the first video choice is the Glock 5..

Spent bit of time handling a gen 4 and a gen 5 glock 19 today. Overall, I came away ambivalent. Strangely enough, I also realized I prefer those finger grooves as they seem perfect for my hand.
Shop & range owner said they'd sold all the 17s they received, but had some 19s yet. Said most shooters so far couldn't tell a big difference, but the realy good, frequent shooters all thought the gen 5 was more accurate. Said biggest complaint they had heard was cutout in front of grip to expedite mag removal was too big and irritated fingers during heavy firing.

The very difference in the bigger Glocks and the G42/43 guns has been incorporated into the Gen 5. The little bitty coil spring in the slide stop and the way the trigger return spring bracket is hooked over the end of the crucifix. Bad thing in my mind is those are the common fail items we see in the G42/43s. Little bitty coil spring in place of the old leaf for the slide latch too. Front strap is a boxers or briefs thing. For me the ambi slide stop adds unnecessary complexity. Kewl for the left handed new shooter but the experienced left handed shooter has long ago acquired the skill set to run the one side slide stop.

For me, I'm a Gen 3 guy on all but the G20 and G21. There I like the Gen 4. So, since I'm perfectly happy with my Gen 3 G17 & G19, I'm gonna pass on the Gen 5.

Do I understand correctly that the Generation 4 grips-without a backstrap added-are a bit smaller than the Generation 3 grips?
If so, is the generation 5 grip-without a backstrap added-about the same size as the generation 4-also without a backstrap added?
I have small hands and the grips on my Generation 3 model 26 are bigger than I would like. I can't reach the magazine release without changing my grip-even with a Vickers release. A Generation 4 model 19 without a backstrap added seems appreciably smaller to me.

Yes. A gen 4 sans backstraps is slightly smaller front to back than a standard G3. I like my 4s with no backstraps.

Don't the gen 5's have a safety? I heard on the glock forum that that is why a lot off people are not buying them.

Just picked up a Gen5 G19. Took her out this morning and put 115 rounds through it- no issues. Accuracy was the same as my other generation Glocks. While there are a lot of changes to the Gen5 design, it feels very much the same as a Gen4 when firing. The big difference - no finger grooves.
The only other noticeable shooting difference (from other gens) was a "squishy" trigger. I dropped in a 3.5 lb. Ghost connector in it and it didn't help much, where it made a notable difference in all my other Glocks. Could just need to be worked in. We'll see.
BTW: There is no manual safety on the Gen5

The design Glock submitted for the Army trials had a safety but nothing else Glock has released to the market does. I'm not getting one because there's nothing earth shattering or game changing about the Gen 5 that my Gen 3 and 4 don't already handle just fine. I suspect that's the thought process of a lot of other owners as well. If I was a lefty or didn't already own a Glock the ambidextrous slide release might sway me. JMHO, YMMV, void where prohibited, breaking this seal voids all warranties expressed or implied, please inspect shipment for damage before signing, yada yada yada
